Sound problems in FS2004

Hi,

Have had fs2004 installed for a while now but have some strange sound problems ever since I installed it. For some reasons some sounds work, but not others.

I get navigational and ground sounds (like landing gear rolling along the runway) and some engine  sounds (mostly for propellor aircraft, but no sounds for 737/747/777 & learjet). Does anyone have any ideas how I can get these missing sounds to work?

I am runnning XP Pro with the latest updates, and my sound card is the onboard one with my motherboard (Intel I815).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Qwertytam,

   Did this problem just start, or ever since install of FS2004?  Just to make sure, are the drivers for your on-board audio up to date?  I've had this problem before.  Check the website for your motherboard manufacturer.
   If you have problems, contact me at support@anadrac.com and I'll try to find the drivers for you.  That's what I do.

The problem has occured ever since I installed FS2004. The board is manufactuerd by Intel and they don't have any sound card updates on their website.

Hi qwertytam,

Have you made sure that the .wav files for the missing sounds are indeed installed.

In explorer open one of the offending a/c folders. i.e; ....FS9\aircraft\b737-400. Open the Sound folder within and it should contain many *.wav files along with the Sound.cfg file (Note; the 747 and 777 are aliased to the 737 so will not have their own *.wav files). You can double click on any of the .wav files to hear them played in Media player..

If all is well there, you might want to test you sound card and drivers in the DirectX diagnostic tool.....Click Start>Run and type in   dxdiag. Click on the sound tab and click the 'testdirectsound' button.

Thanks for the suggestion Dave.

The wave files are there (for the B737), but when I tried playing them in Winamp it complained that it was missing a codec. So I tried the Cessna 172. All the wave files were there again, and some of them played fine, but winamp complained again about the ones it couldn't play saying it was missing a codec.

So I guess we found the root of the problem (i.e. missing codec), but why are some of the wave files encoded using a different codec? And if FS2004 makes use of some obscure codec, shouldn't it have installed it?

FS2004 is the only program giving me sound issues. Everything else (mp3's, DivX movies, FS2002 etc) works just fine.

So if anyone has got any idea what codec I'm missing I would be most grateful. Further details of my sound card and DirectX version are below.

Motherboard with onboard sound card:
Intel D815EEA with the Creative Labs SoundBlaster PCI 128 ES-1373 audio driver - Checked the Intel website last night for the latest driver. It was from November 2000 which is about 6 months before I brought my computer and I figured it was probaly the same version installed already. But I thought I might as well give it a crack and downloaded and installed it anyway, still no joy:(

DirectX:
Version - 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902)

Sound card driver:
sbpci.sys
Version - 5.12.0001.4041 (English)
Date - 21/09/2000

Tested Direct sound with full accleration and it all worked fine.

If anyone has got any ideas what the missing codec is, I would be most grateful.

Hopefully someone will come up with a specific answere for you, in the mean time;

Havent had much time to work on it, yet, but you might try playing the files with Windows media player and see if you get the same result.

Did quick search of MS-knowledge base and found one article that is somewhat pertinent:

Applies to FS2004, but does not give  XP solutions.

You might try a search there using the specific error message you recieved. A Google of the same message might return something also.
