Try this for a little fun and test your skill. Turn realism setting to max. Get out the ol piper cub and sit on the end of the runway. Turn up the wind to max right down the runway. With a little practice you can hover.
Fun!

Yeah, I've done that. Pretty good fun. It is not that unbelievable either. I have flown a cub into head winds and it damn near does hover.

Push the wind up to 200kts and see if you can hover a 744.
You can even fly it backwards if you're careful. ;)

Interesting. I must try that some time. There was a private owner at Shoreham when I worked there years ago with a little Aeronca C-3. They used to call it the Flying Bathtub.
http://www.airbum.com/pireps/PirepC3.htmlIts cruising speed was about 45 mph if that. I never saw him do it but they reckoned he could fly it backwards in a strong wind.

There was a similar malarky in 2k2 about a year ago, and it ended up with people landing 747s on buildings and stuff... Hmm maybe I could get in some practice this evening....
