Carb heat activation

I wonder what is suppose to tell me if the carb/heat is activated or not on Cessna 182?

I'm not familiar with the 182, but it depends on if it's got a carburetor like the 172

There is a knob that comes out when carb heat is on.

it's more visible on the DC-3 (blue handles)

182 is fuel injected, it has no carb heat.  U will generally notice a drop in rpm when carb heat is activated on an aircraft that has it.

Note rpm b4 turning it on.  turn it on for 20seconds or so, then turn off.  If your revs after applying carb heat r higher than b4 u turned it on then u were starting to ice up.
