Why Is That?

Postby Captain Midnight » Sun Jul 10, 2016 7:52 am

Did you ever notice that some airplanes have twirly things at the front to move them along while others blow hot stuff out the back?

Why is that? Can't they just agree on one method to save money on tooling and somesuch?

Just curious

The "twirly things at the front" are frequently on older aircraft. Not many had air conditioning so that was how they kept cool.

I think. :shifty:

I remember the twirly thing just behind my head in the sportsman my father and I used to fly in. I always found myself checking the castle nuts and wires on the prop to make sure it was not going to come off

Why are some twirly things in the front and some have twirly things on the top while others have twirly things on the wings. Why is that? Is there an advantage to one over another?

Co-incidently I too, have a twirly-thing on my front and I sometimes blow hot stuff out the back! Must have been born to fly, I guess.

OK, agreed. I will be grounded from 12A.M. until 12P.M. Then I will start my life over again the right way, at least for a while.

Did you ever notice that some airplanes with whirly things have a deep growly sound ..... while others have sort of a whiny sound from their motor parts? Why is that?
Just perplexed.
