Need help with Alpha Freeware F-80

Postby Gringo6 » Tue Oct 20, 2015 9:58 pm

I have Alpha's freeware F-80 and need some help with something. It has to do with using smoke effects.
When they designed the airplane they decided that it needed to leave a slight grey smoke trail behind it at
all times. So they used grey smoke fx in the [smokesystem] section and set it to be on at all times.

I would like to use a different smoke effect and have it so that I could turn it off when I wanted. To do this
I need to find where they set it "ON" permanently and change it but so far I've struck out

I have searched the ".air" and 'aircraft" files thoroughly and cannot find it. There doesn't seem to be anything
in the "effect" files or the "panel" files either. That only leaves texture, sound and model files. If it is in the
model file I'm screwed 'cause I don't know how to open or modify them. Sound and texture seem unlikely.
So where in the world is it ?

Alpha (or rather Vertavia now) doesn't support these old planes anymore so I can't ask them.

I need some help.

Your help is requested.

Smoke system can be turned on and off. In the assignments list there is an event "Smoke system on/off. My assignment is the K key, yours might be different. That might solve part of your problem. I think you just need to remove the grey smoke.fx file from the effects folder and substitute the "whatever" smoke.fx that you want to use. That should solve your problem.

OK guys, thanks.

I've always said the best way to solve problem is to post an inquiry and while waiting for an
answer you'll find it.

It worked in this case too.

Found that sucker in the VC. Since I don't fly with the VC I'd forgotten about it having one.

I removed that line of code and now it works ok.

Thanks,
