Trouble adding to the Scenery Library

Postby georgiaracer » Wed Apr 15, 2015 12:56 am

I'm using win 8.1 and I do not know how to use it. I downloaded the Duxford War Museum Scenery and ran the auto install successfully. I tried to add the scenery to the Scenery Library in FS9. After a search in the Add Area, I found it , but could not get it to show up in the Settings-Scenery Library list. Can anyone walk me through the entire process to get the scenery to show up in FS9. I added it in another computer some time ago using Win XP and had no problem. This is a great program with the AI aircraft pack. Air shows and War Bird aircraft parked around the scenery. Sure would appreciate any help.

It looks as though you have managed OK to locate the correct folder in the Add-on Scenery Folder...

...the named Folder which ONLY contains the Scenery and Texture folders!.... ;) ...!

When you have reached the Scenery Library in the Sim, click "Add Scenery", then search for the correct Folder in the Add-on Scenery Folder....

....click on it...

In the Window which now pops up...CLICK ANYWHERE WITHIN THAT WINDOW, and immediately you should see the "new scenery" added to the top of the list in the list of scenery!
(Its a peculiarity of Windows 8.X).... :o ....!

When that happens, you are good!.... ....!

Close down the Sim, restart it, and it will automatically include your new scenery!

Give that a go!

Men, I tried that and nothing happened. I do not know how to go to the FS9 scenery library in win 8.1. I need to check for any .bgl files pertaining to EGSU such as AF2 EGSU.bgl. Win 8.1 stinks. I think that is where my problem may be. I need someone to instruct me step by step on how to get to that scenery library in Win 8.1. Any takers. Thanks in advance. 'Racer.

Have you previously been successful in adding OTHER scenery files to your FS 2004 scenery library, using Windows 8.1?

Does your problem only occur with this particular download, using Windows 8.1?

The process for actually locating the add-on file, is the same for all versions of Windows. Placing the file in the scenery list is only slightly different in Windows 8.1, as described above.

The file you are searching for is a single, NAMED folder, containing a scenery folder with .bgl files, and a texture folder containing texture files.

There is only one way I know of to get to the Scenery Library in FS9:

1. If flying, press Esc and choose End Flight.
2. On the resulting screen, click Settings and then Scenery Library.
3. Click Add Area, and browse to the folder containing the scenery.
4. Click Once on the main folder name, then click OK.
5. Click the white area remaining on the screen (if present).

The scenery layer should now be listed at the top of the screen.

The Scenery folder and the Addon Scenery folder for FS9 is located in C:/Proggram Files(86)/Microsoft Games/FS2004 Than Either Sxcenery or Addon Scenery
Remember if you put something in the Addon Scenery you might have to activate it once in FS2004

This is the default location
However as I have stated in more than one post It is not Advised to install to the default location in windows 8 or Windows 8.1
My FS2004 is on my B Drive And my FSX is on my D drive
The reason has to do with permissions. Some third software will not work well in this area.
I know there are people out there that have FS2004 installed in the default location and have had no problems but my guess is they do not have much in the way of third party software or files.
To me it is just easier to put it someplace else other than here. Just make a folder OUTSIDE of the program Fiels(86) folder and put it there. Than you never have to worry about permissions.

The one advantage of installing in the Windows; "Program Files" location, I find, is when it comes to un-installing a program which doesn't include its own method of fully un-installing it!

This will do the trick!...Start > Settings > Control Panel > Programs and features...select program.....right click...un-install.

Quick and easy!

I don't have any problems with my FULL Admin rights to my computer!

Paul.....un-installing myself... ...!

This applies to programs installed to any location on your PC providing you used the normal procedure to redirect the install in the first place. I always uninstall unwanted software via the Revo uninstaller. This can remove all those remaining files & registry entries included with a lot of free software.
