Wind Sound Problem

I just installed FS2004 to my windows 8.1 computer and decided to take my Cessna out for a spin. I hear the sounds all around me and then I start hearing the wind stutter and turn into a wierd "Wurring" noise (To best describe it)

I went into my sound blaster control panel and shut off all the surround effects etc and re-launched, and got the same sound glitch again after a few minutes. I narrowed it down to the "Environment" sound but I can't figure out if I'm missing something or if the game is flat out glitching against windows 8.1.

Can anybody help me?

I've tried uninstalling, and re-installing. The drivers are up to date on the entire computer. The OS is fully updated. I'm not running add ons, and I've ruled them all out since this is only occurring in the base game. I can try wiping the config to see what happens, but I'm not sure that's the solution.

I've never heard of this in Windows XP or windows 7 Ultimate x64.

I don't have Win8, but it can be useful if there is any incompatibility between Win8 and FS9 sound/s.

1- Go to the sound folder of the C172, in Win7 is located C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\c172

2- Open with worpad the file named sound

3- Scroll down and you'll see:
... ... ... ...
[NON_COMBUSTION.1.03]
filename=xc172_noncombustion2
flags=0
viewpoint=2
rparams=0.414000,1.023000,1.000000,1.176000
vparams=0.000000,0.000000,0.373000,0.000000,0.558000,60.800000,1.000000,79.200000,1.000000,79.200000,1.000000,79.200000,1.000000,79.200000,1.000000,79.200000

[WIND_SOUND]
filename=wind3
minimum_volume=6000
maximum_volume=8500
minimum_rate=0.60
maximum_rate=0.90
minimum_speed=40.0
maximum_speed=120.0

[GEAR_UP_WARNING_SOUND]
filename=cagear

etc.

Maybe the problem is that the file sound3 is not compatible with Win8.

¿Have you tested other planes? If not try the C208, this plane has a different wind sound. If it works OK:

Replace in [WIND_SOUND] the line filename=wind3 by filename=c4wind4.wav

I'll give this a shot on the 172.

However, this problem is not plane specific. I've heard it while flying other aircraft, that also includes a few addon planes haven't tested with jets.

If there are not alternate sounds, the solution is not polite, but then you should rename/delete all "wind" sounds in the main sound folder of FS2004.

I am using Win 8.1 and have no wind sound problems in FS9

If you go to your FS9cfg file which you will find in the following location
C:/Users/(your name goes here)/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FS9/Fs9.cfg
NOTE make sure you can view hidden files as APPdata is a hidden file

You will find three wind files you can use your media player to listen to them if you do not hear the sound from these files than your problem lies some place else.

LOL! Thanks guys for all the help. I uninstalled and re-installed FS and it seems to have fixed the issue. I'll keep an ear open for any "bad wind" sounds as I set up my addons.
