Hi Good People,

A batch of Douglas DC3 liveries are almost ready for release over at the Ford Tri-Motor Project Site.

These liveries are compatible with FS2004 and FSX renditions of the Douglas DC3

We were going to release a batch of 14 but three last minute additions have been added - An almost chrome version, a Douglas DC3

Demonstrator predominantly white bodied and a fully buffed metal Douglas DC3 Demonstrator.

So now a batch of 17, possibly more, should be ready for a November Launch.

Excellent Gary !!! I JUST yesterday decided to try out the DC3 in my FS9 for the first time.I'm rather spoiled on the Boeing 737 and 747,but watched "Air America" and got curious. Tho they were flying the C-123 in the movie for the most part ( which I downloaded ) I kinda liked the look of the DC3 and decided to do an Air America repaint for it.Doesnt look that bad either. But with your post here,it gives me something to look at and see what is offered. Thanks for the heads up bud ! // Rather than submit another reply (post ) I just decided to edit and add on here...
I went to the link and saw the proposed textures.BEAUTIFUL !!! Just one question...do you have any idea when they will be available? Eager to fly some of those beauts!

Glad you like what is about to come for the DC3 repaints - I am in the final stages of repaints - finished off 6 extra's just yesterday. A tribute to several of the popular Flight Sim Sites, a PCPilot special and a Microsoft Special

Posted them for preview on the Ford Project DC3 page yesterday listed under DC3 as BONUS liveries.

Possibly one or two more to come and then we can set them all up for download.

Wild guess at the moment but they should all be available before the month is out or very early in November

Could not resist a quick tinker with the Air America late 1940's theme



Unfortunately this theme is well beyond the era that the Ford Tri-Motor Project caters to - up to the late 1930's only.

So not sure if this livery will ever be released - just a fun graphics diversion into another shiny metal tinker.

Oh No! ...... Remember, you wouldn't do a "D-Day" one from the EARLY-MID '40s period! I am chagrined, sir. Your standard has been doubled!

As mentioned in my post - this one intrigued me as a Shiny Repaint - if you know my very long history in sim repainting, you would know that I enjoy the shiny metal aspects of aircraft repainting for both FS2004 and FSX. Been pumping the shiny's out since 2004 came out and this one was a interesting personal challenge.

Also mentioned in my post this was just a fun tinker - not for release - simply presented the image as some guidance to stephan to demonstrate one possible result that could be achieved with an Air America style for the default DC3.

So mate - no need to be chagrined at all - just me having a bit of time off from the Ford Project to do a fun tinker and sharing an example of the results with a simmer who is currently experimenting with an Air America repaint.

Surely you do not begrudge me a bit of fun tinkering outside the box every now and again, particularly in a graphics style that I enjoy.

Enjoy your tinkering Gary. Love to look at the pics and painting posibilities even if they dont make it to the share page. Just got on the net this morning while I have my C-123 Air America on autopilot from KLFI (Langley ...CIA?...hahaha) to KCLE,where I added a lot of detail to the NASA Glenn station there.Thought I'd see if you saw my comment and yep...that was quick! And your reply was a great surprise.Wasn't expecting the textures out that soon.I enjoy doing repaints as well,tho mine arent as detailed as those I saw on your link. And,as you,I also love the shiny metal.My problem is my metal repaints turn dark or black in the night hours and I have battled that problem for a couple years.Thought it had something to do with the alpha,but so far,no success .And trying to find an answer on the net is like trying to pull hen's teeth,LOL Eagerly awaiting the release of the textures bud. Thank you for your eloquent retort. Sadly there are a lot of things in life that we can see, or become aware of, but not necessarily gain possession of.

Firstly you critique me for not doing something you wanted and imply I have double standards because I chose to do something else and share an image of the results as a guideline to someone else, then critique me for failing to share the actual texture set with the community . No doubt you also expect it for FREE.

Since 1998 I have been, through public flight sim forums, sharing images of things I have done and in most cases have shared the associated texture sets on various web sites that I run or am associated with. Through my sites and other associated web sites I publish and host the results of my graphic labours - many thousands of FREE products gifted to the community.

For the past 16 years I have pumped out countless FREE Download products - across the broad spectrum of simulation areas within FS2004 and FSX. I began my graphics adventures working in FS98 - and have a substantial FS2000 and FS2002 repository of stuff as well - even an excursion into CFS for a few years - and in all cases they have been free downloads to the simming community. Over the years I have published images of hundreds of "tinkers" - some absolute disasters others very interesting challenges and some of high quality. A small percentage of these tinkers are published for download.

In this case, I posted an image of a DC3 Metalic Effect rendition for a livery theme that is outside of the current charter for the Ford Project - I have clearly defining the reasoning why I displayed it and why it may not be published.

My time, my effort, my resources, my money to host and present much of my work - therefore my choice on what and how I share things.

If you are still chagrin about this matter of not doing the D Day livery for the DC3 (which were actually C47's (as was the Air America girl)) why not have a go at producing a livery yourself and share the results via the major sites - or you could commission someone (not me) to do one for you - and share those results with the community for FREE.

In the meantime I will continue to tinker and produce, hopefully interesting, stuff for the Simming Community and share the experiments and the results of most of them with the community for FREE.
