FS9 versus Win 8.1: Fight, and find out who is number one!

As the topic title implies, has anyone here had any issues getting FS 2004 to work on Windows 8? Right now, it installed and runs fine on Windows 8.1, although the only issues I have myself are complete textures from specific paint schemes on specific aircraft not showing up, and difficulty adding some custom scenery to the sceneries list, in which I would click the "add scenery" button, and browse to my desired scenery, only to find nothing, and simply clicking "open" or ok doesn't work. Manually typing the filename of the .bgl files only resulted in being unable to see the name of the scenery show up, even though it was added to the list.

Anyways, what might be some good resources and info on getting the best performance on windows 8 and 8.1?

Most of the time, I have "hidden folders" ticked on.

In the mean time, I have noticed an additional issue, involving my joysticks. Namely, the brakes refuse to work. I'm using Saitek flight pedals and a logiteck attack 3 joystick. I have butten one on the joystick set for brakes, but pressing it doesn't do anything. And the differential brakes have their axes inverted, forcing me to check the inverted boxes for the toe brakes, not to mention just setting them forces the brakes into a default "on" position, meaning I have to activate the parking brakes to fix it. Pushing the toe brakes undoes the fix, and the brakes are still on even after my feet are completely off the pedals.

Best guess for 8.1 issues? Dump it, go back to win 7. I wish I could.

I would if I could; but considering this laptop was gifted to me after the return/exchange period had expired, and came with Windows 8 pre-installed, and have since upgraded to 8.1, I'm pretty much SOL, because it is ineligible for a Win 7 downgrade.

And an Out of Memory error on a 64 bit OS?!

I went ahead and applied the 4 gb patch from ntcore; hopefully it'll reduce the frequency of those. :P

If there's anything more I can do to further reduce OOM's, I'm all ears. :)

Set your page file (virtual memory) as recommended by windows. (It should be 1.5 x your physical memory.)

I Updated to Windows 8.1 not to long ago and the only problem I have run across so far is that when I first ran FS2004 I had to download some app other than that I have had no problems at all. I run it full tilt and frames locked at 40.
I know some people say to not lock it at all but I find for me this works the best. As you can see by my system specs I am not even close to maxing out my Ram as I can hang 32 Gig 2600 mhz on my mother board.

You are right again, Gary! FS2004 needs to be framed locked.

That differs on my FSX! Why i dont know? I need FSX to run unlimited to avoid stuffers and scenery black flickering updates :?

I'm into some more testing on that confusion
