Payware on Freeware page

Hey guys. Simviation will always be my favorite sim page. One doesnt have to jump through a bunch of hoops to become a member. You have a wonderful selection, and it seems the largest selection of sim AC available any where. The folks in the forums are always friendly and try to help. But I am starting to see payware popping up on freeware pages.A whole string of them.Actually, they are repaints, and they are free. They are for payware packages. There needs to be a separate page for additions for payware,so one needn't have to sort through a bunch of skins they cant use to try and find things they can. What do ya think?

That's normal for all the File Libraries, if the Repaint itself is Freeware. There are Repainters all over, making all kinds of Textures for Payware tubes (CS, WILCO, JF) as well as GA airplanes (Carenado, MAAM-SIM, WoP, etc.).

I, for one, wish that the re-paints were in their own section too. Or at least a way to easily filter them out.

But it isn't going to happen. It'd FAR to labor intensive.

And the mods would rather be golfing or yachting after they've put in the required minimum couple of hours a week.

My Beef is Titles !

The way some of the uploaders Title their product / Wares !

The 1st thing I wanna know is - is it for FSX or 2004 or what ???

2nd thing that should be clear is rather its for Who's Payware or Freeware aircraft, instead what I sometimes see al about the aircraft its a this or that model, but I've had to download the paint or aircraft and read the read me file to find out its some product designers wares / product I don't have.

Take time out to Clearly "Communicate" is all that's needed, a user shouldn't have to guess or Wonder what their truly downloading, and then find out different.

haven't seen it a whole lot on this site, not to much, but some other sites , I just about quit goin to them anymore.

I just seen today a download of a Lockheed L-1049 series propliner, almost 2 whole paragraphs all about the plane, yet NOT 1 word as to who's it was ???

Lets Play - lets make a deal, is it behind curtain #1 curtain#2 or curtain#3 ????

Could it possibly of been a model by :

FSDZigns ?

Manfred Johns ??

Just Flight ???

or Mike Stone ????

:D :D ~ Nawwwwww , wrong answer you lose !

who knows, what model it was for and I wasn't goin to take the time to find out either.

I figure if they can't at least add in the description rather its for FSX or 2004 or flight sim 1995 or even 1959,,, :D then I won't waste my time foolin with it same goes for Utilties & re-paints.

Yip I've got a great bunch of tires for Sale here, practically brand New who ever wants them,,, come get em' you'll get great mileage out of them !!

whats that You say ??? :o

Ohhhh did I forget somethin' ;) , like Tire Size

Excellent replies on all levels, and I loved the comedy relief, even tho you made a very valid point thru comedy. Now...what do the Simviation mods (folks) have to say about this?

Take a gander at the File Details; you can look at the Readme.txt file to check what airplane it's for.

Jetranger... I bet the Connie in question could be the Calclassics or Kazunori Ito model.

Sometimes that doesn't even help. Let's say you're interested in a certain repaint. If you look at the CFG "sim" line in the Readme file that will tell you which aircraft it's for right? But then you have to know what the original aircraft's CFG "sim" line says too. Now you're into more research which could be avoided if the repaint write up had just a little more info.

Another item on my wish list is having a jpg or other picture in the files that you can view before you go through a download. I've run across that several times and I think those files would get many more downloads if they had a picture. When I come across a file that might have a good write up and sounds interesting but doesn't have a picture of the finished product I'm very reluctant to download it and place it in my Fltsim just to find out it wasn't worth the effort.

I totally agree with Hawkeye's suggestion for a photo; not just a Thumbnail, but a good sized (at least 640 x 480) photo.

All in all, more info in the File Description is always better. To a Niner like me, I've been through the File Libraries so much I
feel like I've partly memorized what's available out there! Remember, though... I'm a 2D Panel guy, I could care less about a VC,
and my Tubeliner experience is minimal! :P

Hi -- Payware repaints are always meant to be put into payware. If there is one that is in the wrong place - if I'm informed I'll move it.

We also state if any additional file is necessary and put a link in to it.

What file are you talking about? An example please? Thanks 8)

Howdy Pete. In the FS2004 download area, there's a whole string of textures for payware there. It is useless for those who dont have that payware, and we dont bother even giving it a glance. Some cant afford the payware,as we live day to day on our income. If there was a section "Payware textures",that would be great. Those things could be moved from the freeware pages. They COULD be moved to the payware page instead, since that's where their base package is from.Just a change in the name of the page to "Payware and Textures" would work. We will be in the shadows, watching you (lol ;) )

By the way...if FS2004 aircraft download page isnt exact enough, the textures for the payware are in the most recent of the pages. If that doesnt help, let me know, and I'll get the posting dates for you.

I always think that seeing a repaint for a payware airplane is a golden opportunity to spam for the payware itself. Especially if there's a link to that payware 'plane too.
