ARRGH!!! FS2004 Not Installing after Windows 7 rebuild

So I rebuilt my Windows 7 computer (major problems, don't ask)... anyway, I'm now attempting to re-install FS2004 but to no avail. It keeps having problems with Disk4 installing some of the CAB files for say, Atlanta, Paris, etc. I know that this is no longer supported by Microsoft so does anybody have any ideas? I've tried to clean the disk with a professional type CD/DVD cleaning kit and tried the 'toothpaste' trick but still nothing. Anybody know where I can just grab the missing CAB files that I need and then when I reinstall, I'll just choose the SKIP for these files and install them afterwards.

Any serious responses will be accepted. Thanks in advance.

ps - Disk 4 was working to start the game prior to having to rebuild the computer. Thanks.

Hello there gooneybird, sorry to hear about your troubles.

I'm sure I got around this problem by copying all of the FS9 discs contents to a folder on the hard drive and running the install from there.

I'd read about it before and didn't expect it to work, but it was okay.

Cheers, For Danglia.

thats true

copy the contents of all discs to a temp folder then run setup from there
provided the disc is'nt dammaged.

if you cant copy the bad disc,
you could try to copy on another machine to a thumb drive and transfer to your temp folder.
some disc drives will read dammaged discs better than others.

I purchased my copy of FS 2004 when it was first released, and after many years of running the program every day, the disks developed reading problems, especially disk #4, during its many re-installations.
The permanent cure for me was to purchase a brand new copy of FS 2004 again, to ensure problem-free installations, especially as it costs next to nothing nowadays!
Like me.....CD's/DVD's, DVD drives and Hard Drives don't last forever!

I got excatly that problem with disk 4, when i brought a new version of fs2004!
Fortunately i still kept my old version, and that old disk 4 just ran smootly!!
Do you know some nearby having fs2004? Then you could try another disk 4.

Thanks for all the replies. I think that I'm going to start with just going back to FS2k for now and then either making the jump up to FLIGHT or FSX. Unless I run across a used copy of FS9 somewhere cheap.

Cheers to all!

disk drives ware out , get out of tollerance over time and cant read older disks with scuffs or scratches
yours may not be able to read that disk anymore.

try this;
try reading disk 4 on another pc and burn a new copy
this method has worked for me many times on alot of my old setup disks

if the pc wont let you copy it (copy protect)
copy the contents to a temp folder and burn it from there.

gooneybird,

You're in the States, right? One place you might try would be Craigslist. Look under Computers, and click on anything having to do with 'software'. Sometimes people selling used outdated software lump FlightSim into that category. Found a mint copy of FS 2004 in the tin box for $5.00!

Good hunting!
