A glitch in the scenery or virtual mem issue?

A friend got this message while flying thru Brazil. Was wondering if anyone knows what causes these kinds of error messages, when he has 90 gig free on his HD. Wondering if his virtual memory needs increased,or if there are certain scenery in FS9 that have glitches. I myself was flying from KCLE to KRKS on autopilot in a HondaJet v4 and while sipping my coffee, the sim simply shut down and went to Desktop. But my problem doesn't concern me.The one for my friend does. Here is his error... "Your computer has run out of available memory.Flight Simulator will now exit. You may not have enough free space on your HD.Run disk cleanup..."yada yada. Hope someone has a solution. Thanks y'all.

I only know, this error also appears with FSX from time to time. I don't know why either. A restart of the computer does it always and it will mostly not happen on the same situation.

Merry Xmas

Excellent!

Its always a good idea to reboot the computer before loading up the Flight Sims, to clear out any left-over rubbish in memory!

I used to have the same frustrating problem with FSX in the beginning, but it is all history now.
I think it may be the old "UIAutomation.dll" problem.

Just to repeat, the file "UIAutomation.dll" that's ships with Win7 is NOT compatible with FSX, and causes loads of problems.
The solution is to download a copy of the VISTA version "UIAutomation.dll", and paste this directly into your FSX root folder.
Job done. No need to remove the Win 7 one, as FSX will find the Vista one "first" when launched.

NB: Google "UIAutomation.dll for FSX" - There are many sites hosting the correct file for exactly this problem.

Meantime, Happy xmas to you all and families, and hope Santa brought you that upgrade you've been promised.
Best regards

The UIAutomation.dll fix is not depending on the FS version. The restart trick too.

What are your systems specs
If you are using a 32 bit operating system the max ram you can have is 4 gigs and it only sees about 3.4 gigs at best .
I remember I had to use some of the tweaks in order to make it run without getting this message
I think the UIautomation dll works with windows 7 or Windows 8 64 bit systems and should not be used on 32 bit operating systems

You can try this program out it will shut down unneeded programs before you start FS9

http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
I think it will work with FS9 but not sure
If not your only solution is to tweak your scenery cfg file.
Or update your system which is what I finally did.
I now run both FS9 and FSX full out with no problems.

Thanks folks. Your replies on this problem is very appreciated. I'll let him know. I've been telling folks from other sim forums to check out Simviation, that to me,the best solutions are found by the minds found here. I have received more answers to situations from folks here than any other forum. Again,I do appreciate it.

FS is a 32 bit program, which means that it can only use 2 gb of ram......if you are using a 64bit version of windows then you need to DL and run this program http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php it will allow your FS to use 4gigs of ram instead of just 2.
When you run the program it will ask you to browse to the exe file for the program, press ok and it will take like 2 seconds to make a new exe file......then you need to make a new short- cut for your desktop for the new exe.
I have never had a CTD/freeze/crash again since I ran this program.

Just wondering if you had a look at my suggestion...?
Actually, wondering if anyone had a look at my suggestion.......?
This utility seems to have gone un-noticed here at Simv.....but I think it belongs up near the top of the list of must haves for all FS enthusiasts.

Hello Rom.... :D ...

Successfully applied the FSX Patch and put the NEW FSX .exe short-cut on my Desktop

Now...how do I know if it has increased the memory availability in FSX?..... .....

Windows 8. 64-bit. 8GB System Memory.

Paul.... 8-) ...!

Hey Rom... Question... I am not up too much on the lingo and program techy terms. When you commented about that patch, you said " ...you need to DL and run this program.." / What does 'DL' mean? // ALSO,... you mentioned 64 bit Window users...can users of 32 AND 64 bit users use this patch? // NEXT... how do I find out if my WINDOWS is 32 or 64 bit ??? // AND FINALLY... when you said "...it will allow your FS to use 4gigs of ram instead of just 2.",is that physical RAM,or virtual RAM ? I know my questions are probably ones that kids would know the answers to,but my mind doesnt grasp some things very easily anymore, hehehe (and note, that when I used CAPITLIZED lettering,I wasn't web shouting...just making my words separate and obvious. Thanks for the comments and hope to get answers to my questions. If I fit the requirements,I too will download this patch.

As I have always said the only dumb question is the one that is not asked. So do not let that stop you from asking. DL stands for download and you can find out which operating system you have easily enough. For starters if the system you are using is more than a few years old you can almost be assured it is a 32 bit system. The other way is to open your control panel and click on the system ICON this will tell you about your system .
It will tell you what kind of CPU is in it and what speed it is running at and
It will tell you how much ram you have installed.
The biggest difference between a 32 bit and a 64 bit is basically the amount of RAM (Random Access Memory) it can access.
A 32 bit system can only have 4 gigs of ram but it only sees about 3.4 gigs of that ram which can slow things down.
A 64 bit system can see 32 gigs of RAM and along with a multi-core processor the system will be fast.
As you can see by my signature I am using Windows 8 64 and have a Quad core processor, and have 12 gigs of 1800 mhz (mega-hertz) of ram but can put 32 gigs of 2400 mhz ram if desired but this type of ram is not cheap.
I hope this has helped you if not drop me a private message and I wil try to further explain.

Stephan, I think Gary hit pretty much every point that you asked (Cheers Gary)......The only other thing was whether or not this works with a 32bit version of windows? , apparently there is a boot.ini to modify and blah blah blah :? I have read conflicting remarks about that so I am really not sure......If you are running 32bit windows then google it and you should be able to get some clarity on what to do to get it going.....but if you are running 64bit it is REALLY simple.

Paul.........did you say FSX ??? :naughty: .......I'm not really sure how to tell how much ram you are using at any given time but there must be a way?.....But, the bottom line is that you wont get anymore of those crashes/freezes/CTDs/ or OOMs that FS9 and FSX are so famous for......To think that FS is running on only 2gigs of RAM, when most of us have WAY more than that installed on our gaming rigs is almost .....scandalous!!
Anyways......hopefully that patch helps you to get your ram up
