I did the FS9.cfg sugested tweaks for FS 2004 and I'm still amazed at the HUGE change (before, I used the default FS 2004: didn't find that ELUSiVE FS9! I believed it was an urban legend ...) I also found Golden Wings 3, Aquarama (installed with Silver Wings), Real Environment Pro (installed with FS 2004) & now, my ocean looks like a marriage between a Pond & a fish-tank! All those squares & unrealistic textures PLUS the not-wet plastic & static watter, they ALL are history! Also did the Nick Tweaks for a better running PC. AMAZiNG! (now, I lost all thumbnails & my desk looks like S... omething brown with an ofensive odor); a Century of Flight performs like NEVER BEFORE! (ALL three versions!)

BUT (there allways is a big but), when applying metrics instead of english system, the aircraft size in relation to the environment, becomes Tinker Toy scale!


With the english system, alles is normal


BUT with the metrics change ...

the size of the Cub is like a DiSTANT RC model with a .35 cu.in. engine, at most!


If I make the aircraft the size it had with english system, look at the island in the background: it becomes very very Mickey Mouse!



Here in FS9.cfg at iNTERNATiONAL, the only noted change is MEASURE=1 or MEASURE=2 (tryed MEASURE=0 but no change whatsoever). I am shure there must be a way the FS9.cfg proportions the aircraft in relation to the environment. I do not know where or what to look for; can you help me? GRACiAS!

The change in airplane size has NOTHING to do with US or Metric systems. That is only the difference in measuring airspeed and altitude. You have a problem with zoom. Try pressing + when the aircraft appears small or use your mousewheel.

And you have three versions of FS9? FS9, FS2004 and Century of Flight are actually the same thing. You only need one.

And regards to your other question in this forum. No, there is no dedicated FS2004 screenshot forum. All screenshot go into the screenshot forum. FSX and FS2004 together. It's up to the person who posts them to tell if it's FSX or FS9. Since most are using FSX now, you'll find less FS9 shots.

Regarding screen shots, I have always been very proud of my FS 2004 screen shots, so I always make a special point of making it known in the post heading that they are for FS 2004 Century of Flight (and not for FSX)!

I've always thought it very important to identify the shot; FS 2004/FSX so there is no confusion between the two.

Not so: the background stays equal, on both settings. Only the AiRCRAFT become small after selecting metric system (altimeter in meters) as we use here in México; when zooming-in, the scenery becomes AWFULLY huge too! & if I put back english system instead of metric system, everything is back to normal. If I select metric system with altimeter in feet, background ratio vs. aircraft, also stays normal. Same effects, when I change in FS9.cfg\[iNTERNATiONAL]\MEASURE=0 for english system, or MEASURE=1 for metric system (altimeter in feet) (or MEASURE=2 for metric system (altimeter in meters) wich causes the disruption)

I just want to learn where & how to control this effect.

Wrong again: I know FS9, FS 2004 & a Century of Flight are the very same simulator! Diferent names for diferent installs: for the files folder in my docs where different flights are saved, & for the hidden files in AppData where the FS9.cfg files are created.

I have installed a DEFAULT version of FS9 (for installing from my DVD & configuring files, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 is refered to as FS9) to install Real Environment Pro & compare results. Excellent enhancement, have lots of options. This program wont find FS9 IF the bridges update is installed: only accepts a clean FS9 install.

Afterwards I installed another FS9 to add Silver Wings (sends you back in time to 50's/60's era) PLUS Aquarama; and the watter looks wetter than in Real Environment Pro, although REP has a better looking ocean in the dark version.

My third FS9 install, is for transforming into Golden Wings 3, wich sends you back in time to the 20's & 30's (I have downloaded a lot of vintage aircraft), deleting all modern aircraft (except DEFAULT cessna & flight, very important!). Their watter textures are a huge leap forward from the default & plastic ocean textures
