I'm sick to death of M/S Vista and don't want to sign on to anymore M/S products unless necessary.

Will FS9 and FSX work on a Mac?

I do need a new computer and am considering the Mac but want to know if it is compatable with FS9, etc.

Your comments are invited.

Both FSX and FS 9 are based on Windows architecture, and will not work under the OSX operating system. A couple of years ago when Apple went to Intel CPU's they released a program called "Boot Camp", which allowed the user to load both Windows and OSX on the same HDD (with separate partitions). This would be the only way to use either FSX or FS 9.

I don't know if Boot Camp is still available, and if it is not, then the only option you have is to purchase another Windows PC. If you do, explore the option of having Win 7 as the OS; it's much more stable than Vista ever was.

I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions as well.

Not so much an opinion here: My experience: Two years ago, new system with Win07, FS9 is working just fine, no crashes, good high speed, etc. & with a lot of extra scenery items loaded up too. Before that I had WinXP, also very good, with FS 2002, but a much lower speed computer, so FS9 was slow, whereas FS2002 was OK.

I do not know anything about Vista, or Mac, so can't comment on them.

In general however, your experience with Vista is not necessarily indicative of all MS products. As ViperPilot said, "Win 7 as the OS; it's much more stable than Vista ever was" is worthy of consideration.

Aside from FS9, Win07 has not given me any problems whatsoever. I prefer it somewhat over WinXP, and I am very satisfied with Win07, but I'm still using WinXP on my boss's system, no FS there of course, but have had no problems there either.

I would wait for other opinions here, and ask around re: Mac vs MS. Those who know a lot of tech will give you good guidance.

A year ago a friend of mine, who knew absolutely nothing about computers, got a Win07 laptop. I guided him thru the basics, a year later he has had no complaints.

Regarding Win08, there have been some negatives on that one. You should also ask around as to what that's all about.

It looks as though trying to run Microsoft Flight Simulators on a Apple Macintosh Computer generates more problems/difficulties than it is worth...>>>

....better to use a Microsoft "Windows" based PC?...(using Windows 7).

One of my PC's also uses Vista -- it's lame!!! I have deligated it as a music player only.

W7 is much better. (XP was better than Vista) I am also familiar with Linux, Android .... and a little Apple. Althought I admire the quality of the hardware I don't like Apple for the reason that they try to control your software. If anything tries to control my updates, software, apps etc -- I will crack out of it so I can choose what to add. I cracked out of (rooted) my daughter's Kindle so now it can use the Google Play Store & others (with 10's 1000's free apps just as good as the paid ones) .... & I do not like that itunes (or whatever it's called) thing -- so I also rooted my daughter's ipod out of that too (at her request). She can still use Itunes but also other stuff.

But I don't mind W7 overall. It's a lot better than Vista, which was really a beta OS. We're on W8 now and I have no experience of that.

Maybe a good idea to read some reviews.

Windows 8 is a great OS if you have it on a phone or a tablet. On a desk top or home use laptop forget 'bout it.
Stay with Windows 7. I have Ultimate 64 on my laptop & install Home Premium 64 on customer machines. My FS9 & FSX machine is & will be XP Pro.

I tell ya what Gringo, the best thing you could do is build your own computer. That way you can put what you want into it
like the best HDD, the perfect video card for running FS9, a top notch mother board that has plenty of room for expantion.

Also, if you can, Buy microsoft Windows-7. That way you'll always have it if you have problems down the road. I've been
running FS9 on Windows-7 and like these other guys have been saying "It Runs Absolutely Flawless"

I have never tried it with FS9, but I know you can run Windows Based applications on other operating systems with a program called Wine. Here's the website:

I notice that none of the flight simulators are listed as operating satisfactorily under Wine.

I consider that significant.
