All addon aircraft and extra addon scenery will remain but you will have to go into scenery library and add them to the list again also just be careful when you reinstall if you have added any extra repaints (textures)  to any of the default aircraft the reference in the aircraft.cfg will be lost.

Hi Hagar.
I am also fresh out of ideas and running pretty low on patience too. If it wasn't for the great support I am getting on this Forum I would have gone out and bought that hammer I mentioned earlier long ago!!!!  ;D  ;D
frank_carbon has come up with some ideas that I am going to follow through.
To answer your question. Yes, I resized the C: drive partition and loadad FS9 to it. There is 67 Gig of free space on C: (with FS9 installed)

Hi logjam.
My system is a long way from being "state of the art" but it is fairly reasonable I think. I have a AMD 2200XP processor on a Asus A7N8X deluxe Mobo with 1gig of PC3200 ram, and an MSI Nvidia Fx5900-TD128,(this is the original Fx5900, not the cut down version) with a 120gig HD.
The really annoying thing is that FS9 runs perfectly, it just won't save any setting, so I have to reconfigure all the settings every time I return (see my first post).
        Cheers.............Alan

Hi FS_Pilot.
Thanks allen for that info, it will be really useful. I was unaware that I could reinstall the add on scenery by re-adding them to the scenery files. Thanks.

solved it !

Would you believe it? The problem was nothing to do with FS9 or the registry!

I was looking at the fs9.CFG files (for inspiration  ;D) and in the same window there is a "dxdiag.xml" document, so having nothing better to do, I opened it. It said that the DirectX 9a files were corrupted and to reinstall DirectX. I downloaded DirectX 9c from the M$ site and installed it, and that was it, problem solved. I'm glad I didn't buy that hammer  :).

The thing is, that when you install FS9 it checks for DirectX and as it didn't pick up any problems I thought all was OK. I   reckon it must only check if DirectX is installed and not if it is corrupted or not!

Thanks a million everybody for your help and moral support. We can finally close this thread

                Cheers.......Alan (A very happy chappie)

Glad to hear it. Shame it was such a pain in the rear to find it. FS9.cfg for inspiration? Really? Inspiration? Promise me you'll only do that again for troubleshooting. I'm going to get a drink. Cheers.
