Doug. Is this Maule an ordinary zipfile or an auto-install package? From what Rottydaddy says it looks a tad complicated so I suspect it's auto-install. If the files aren't in the Aircraft folder they must be somewhere else. I suggest you search your hard drive to find out where they went. Thanks to Rotty you have the exact folder names to search for. Find one & you should find the others.
Maule M7-260 Amphibian
Maule M7-260 Documents
Maule M7-260 Panels
Maule M7-260 Sounds
Maule M7-260 Spring Gear
Maule M7-260 Taildragger
Maule M7-260 Tri-cycle
Maule M7-260 Tundra Wheel
Maule M7-260 Wheel-ski

This is the reason I always advise people to direct the install path of these auto-install packages to a Temp folder & install the files manually in the usual way.

Hi Doug

No it is not auto install.

I am getting the same thing Sean is showing.

Not sure what I am doing wrong.

I am selecting all and trying to copy then paste.

It worked once but when I open up FS2004 nothing.

I even tried it again and did a restart.

Nothing.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Not sure I'm with you there Doug. You said they don't show up in the Aircraft folder. If you pasted them in there yourself surely they must be there. ???

I don't know which method you're using to move these folders. Try the right-click Cut & Paste options. Much better than Drag & Drop. Far less chance of a mistake & you can see exactly what goes where.

When you say you "open FS2004" do you mean running the sim, or opening the program as a folder and checking the "aircraft" subfolder? If you see them there, and they're not corrupt, i have no idea why you won't find the Maules available when you run the sim.
I know you're pasting the Maule folders into your Aircaft folder, but you should close it and open it again to make sure they "took". I always copy and paste, so I can save the originals as backups, and also to avoid any glitches caused by dragging and dropping.

I know you're pasting the Maule folders into your Aircaft folder, but you should close it and open it again to make sure they "took". I always copy and paste, so I can save the originals as backups, and also to avoid any glitches caused by dragging and dropping.

Everyone has their own way of working but if you do this properly there should be no need to reopen any folders to check that they took. It will also depend on how you have Windows set up. Now I finally have WinXP myself I can see that it's not much different from any other version of Windows.

If you do it my way it's so easy. First extract the zipfile & identify the folders you need in the extracted folder. Select them then right-click anywhere on the selected folders & select Cut. Then open whichever directory you wish to paste them into (in this case FS9\Aircraft), right-click in an empty space in the folder & select Paste. Simple as that. You can see the folders actually appear in there so there should be no doubt whatever where they are as you pasted them in there yourself & can see them sitting there.

I wish I could show you how easy this is but I don't have everything set up on this new machine to do a proper tutorial on it.

PS. Check out my Windows Basics & Working with Windows articles at my Lair. If you set everything up the same as me this should be a piece of cake.

Allow me... not a polished tute; but pictures help sometimes where words fail... My guess here is that you missed a step somewhere; I've done it before, esp. with downloads that have the folders you want to move tucked inside one or more other folders.
I agree, Hagar, that it's not S.O.P. to check the main folders afterwards, but in this case, it'd be very odd if Doug had done it right yet still didn't even see them there.... worth checking out.
 Anyway, i hope this helps.

Once you unzip the downloaded package, you should see this: I've added some comments there.

This is an example of what's contained in each of those subfolders and where you should put them. You should repeat the process for the contents of the Effects, Gauges, and Sounds folders- each in the main Effects, Gauges, Sound folders of FS9.

This is how the Maule folders should look in your main Aircraft folder. As you can see, my fleet is way too big... but they were all free- can't resist!!! ;D

Excellent. ;)

A couple of comments. Click the Folders button to display the file tree window at the left. This makes it easier to see what's inside the folders. Also create a shortcut to your Download folder & FS9 root directory folder & paste them onto your desktop. Simply double-click the shortcuts to open the respective folders. Saves a lot of time looking for them.

Yup. I am showing the default folder icons there... I need to figure out how to set the default for "List" viewing; I wonder if that's possible?
I've got shortcuts to the FS9 folder and my downloads in my Start menu... keeps things tidy and shortens boot time a little.

Right-click in any open folder in Windows Explorer & select View/List. Read my articles. :P :D

WinXP is no different from WinMe I used in my tutes.

Understood... but how do you get it to default to that view whenever a folder is opened?
Poor Trucker; we've hijacked his thread... :P ;D

Thanks Doug and Sean :)

I now have the Maule downloaded and working ;)

Not sure if there is a knee board that shows aircraft information and map but everything else is there.

There's a 'Use this folder type as template' option from the right-click Properties/Customize tab. I haven't tried it as I have different folders set in different ways & I'm not used to WinXP yet. Not sure I like the folder icons as it's difficult to tell which one's open.

Trucker seems to have fixed it somehow despite us. Confusing him what what I was trying to avoid but as usual it didn't seem to work out that way. ;)

it's a pity some other aircraft manufacturers don't follow suit.

Well ATR did it but you are gonna have to pay for that one.  ;D

I wrote ATR public relations by the way thanking them for working so closely with Flight One and got a really nice response from their SVP.

Now if someone could convince Gulfstream to do that also I'd be in business jet heaven.  ;)

Not sure if there is a knee board that shows aircraft information and map but everything else is there.  Did not spend a lot of time checking it out as have to go out.

I followed both your directions and the mistake I was making was not selecting each individual folder and moving it over.

Somehow i knew it... I don't think there is a map specifically for this plane, but you should see V-speeds, etc. in the Reference page of the kneeboard.

Oh and where does documents and panels go, I think I put them in with the aircraft folder as I could not find a separate folder for them but Aircraft, Guages and Sound are okay.

Thanks fellas...practice makes perfect they say so shall try something else that has wheel/skis and an amphibian.

You chose correctly with those locations.  If you have another go at this with another plane, you may find things packaged much differently... just remember that the folder you want to put in your FS9 "Aircraft" folder will always be the one containing several folders (cfg file, model, air file, textures, etc.). Sometimes there'll be one with the name of the plane, but inside that there could be one or even more levels of "aircraft" folder. When in doubt, before you install, keep opening those folders until you find the typical set mentioned above. some downloads even require you to make a folder to put that stuff in, before moving it into FS9/Aircraft. The "ReadMe" that comes with most downloads is always worth reading...

If you want another amphib/ski/wheel model (and why not?), I recommend the Lyons' sweet little Globe Swift- even comes with the "Swift 2" version (bigger engine). It looks, sounds and handles great. Just beware that when it's installed, it will come up under "Swift", not "Globe" in FS9/Aircraft folder (and the sim's aircraft roster, if I remember correctly).
Enjoy!!
