This subject was covered in detail way back when the sim first came out.  If I remember correctly we discussed the exact same things, it is like deja vu.  I thought most simmers  had tried this before.  From what I remember, Nvidea users seemed to have alot more success with this than Radeon users, and certain Nvidea cards really seemed to improve for some reason.  I think it had to do with how XP recognized the drivers.  There is also a switch to a lower screen resolution, 800x600, which increases performance.  Some have reported that the increases stay even after they switch the resolution back to higher specs, but as soon as I did so, everything when back to normal fps wise.  For those that it works for though, happy flying!  Todd

...If you ask me, I reckon this thread has been started, (tongue in cheek), to drive us all mad, in the vain assumption that we can get sumfin' from nuffin..!
...and in the meantime, get us to trash our flight sim .cfg files and cause us to re-install our Flight Sim program all over again....
Buggar...!
...am I right, or am I right... ;)...?

Cheers all...!

Paul.

I'm avoiding all this dross by using my FS 2002...Tee-Hee... ;D...!

It's all a Microsoft plot I tell ya!  :o They know a lot of us have scratched up disks so when we go to reinstall we'll find our disks unuseable and we'll all have to purchase FS 2004 again. Double the profit for Microsoft.  ;D ;D

It may very well be something that works with one card and not another. I tried it when the idea was first posted way back a week or two after I got ACOF and found no change at all for me. Of course I'm running a GForce 4 card so probably nothing is going to make it much better than it is except to bury the thing and get something else.

When I get my new computer together (only have the video card and a copy of Windows XP to go and I'll have enough to assemble it) I'll install ACOF again and try it with and without the mod and report the findings.

I'm not sure if this works or not. I'll have to try it again. :)

Only definite change was that resolution was reset to 800x600...(!) Other than that, maybe seeing another 2 fps, but that may not be definite.

It works (for me): framerates are improved with 5 to 10 fps.

Thank you, Sunlord !

As I said before, frame rates might not IMPROVE  but you will definitely see it sticking to the number you have specified rather than jumping up and down. For example, when i used to fly over heathrow i used to get fps like 3 one sec, 19 the next sec, 2 the next sec etc. but after doing this it ALWAYS sticks to 28 fps which is the number i have locked it at.

It didn't do anything framerate wise for me, all it did was change the screen res. to 800X600X16.

I must admit I was sceptical when I saw this thread.

But I took a large rock and suspended it atop My huge PC speaker, (right channel).

I opened the PC side cover and layed the PC over on it's side so the rock was balanced directly above the video card in my PC.

I'm not sure if my FPS are improved or not, but now if I bump my desk, I might have to get a better video card, and maybe even a new and more powerful PC.

This REALLY works!   ;D
