I guess your right. But look at it this way like you said its a heck of a package for 50 dollars but they made this sim from scratch once so improving mesh can not be to hard but I dont know how to uhh get to the point so I will stop here and accept your post. lo It just dosen't seem to far out to get improved landclass or mesh.

Well FS2k6 is a ways off yet so I guess I should quit thiking about it so the wait is not that long :)

I hate to tell you this, but they did not make FS2004 from scratch.  Basically, FS9 is nothing but a big patch for FS8, which is a big patch for FS2000, which is a patch for FS98, and so on...

Look in your directory and notice all the FS-.exe icons in there.  ;)

The "upside" of the patch-type approach to the new versions is that a lot of the existing payware and freeware files for the previous version work straight away with the new version.  Or can be easily modified.  And the freeware and payware developers all know how the system works and can program effectively within it.

The "downside" to this is that the MS programmers have to "live in the box" that has been created...and that likely makes it hard to solve certain problems with the sim or add new features.

My guess about all the framerate issues with fs2004 is that the "box" has the folks out at MS  (ahem.....) boxed in as to approaching improving framerates.

Think about it.... if they re-do it totally from scratch.... it is very likely that in an instant all of the payware and freeware and flight control hardware will no longer work at all.  I think they are kinda' caught in a "damed if you do, damned if you don't" type situation.

best,

Wouldn't it be better if there was a complete forum on the new FS XX. That way we could all choose to ignore or post, whatever! This comes up every week I think. Heaven forbid the day when personally, I could afford a system that handles all the bells and whistles at TV resolutions and I'm ready to ask that question. :'(

Along the lines of a "gold" edition addon by MS, I would like to see MS start an addon website on their own maybe where designers could contribute to monthly addon disks. Hopefully the great sales of FS would justify a MSFS "department" at MS. Better yet with a new version of FS2006 if totally redesigned, MS should also design a translator program to translate the current design scripting to their new FS engine since they're so good at making compilers and interpreters, the end result being addons for FS2000 to present could be transferred over to FS2006. My other big beef is that I want MSFS physics model to approach real life aviation simulators like X-Plane and get FAA approval instrument flying hours in some capacity. Adding all SID, STAR, approach charts would be reasonable considering today's storage capacities. (maybe an extra gig) Scenery I think is good enough, maybe adding accurate streets based on GPS or something would be enough for me.

No, I am not saying they did start from scratch in F2004 but they started from scratch on the first version and yes I am shure it took longer than 2 years but that was to make everything. To improve mesh does not take 2 years and yes it costs money but what sells better today, FS95 or FS2004 and why; because FS2004 has better graphics, detail, and realism. Well wouldint mesh add better graphics, detail, and realism? How long did it take FSGenesis to make their mesh or FSGlobal2005, FSGlobal2005 you can get the whole world for 60 dollars and they are a smaller company and therefor do not sell as many products as M$ so they must price high to make money. Lrger companies that sell much more producs can price much lower and make the same amount of money. So in reality we could pay the same price as we did for FS2004 and M$ would still make a profit.  You cant compare a rather small company to a multibillion dollar company and expect to get the same numbers out of the two. That is just my oppinion on what they should focus on in FS2k6 because it seems everyone here has some sort of mesh to make their sim look beliveable, the mesh covers the whole world so no one is left out so its not like people saying "they need to add my house so my city looks real," and I think it would be the best improvement to the sim to help make it "As Real As It Gets." Theres my two cents on the whole thing but FS2006 wont be here for a while yet so we have nothing to wory about  and scnece there seems to be such a strong urge to post about FS2006 maybe there should be another forum topic area in Simviation started for it. Because I admit it I enjoy talking about FS2006 when the topic arises because I am always looking forward to newer and better versions even if its not set to my liking  ;) ;D Happy Flying
