Wow. I run about 80-90% maxed out, all the time, and get a consistant 15-20(capped) FPS anywhere I fly (including highly detailed sceneries) My autogen is set to 80 miles. Given my system specs, this is, compared to most of you, strangely excellent. I built my computer from scrap parts that were donated to me from random people who worked in offices, so most of my hardware is cheap/buffalo brand stuff. Here's the specs, though.
Windows XP Pro, of course
GeForce FX5200, always has the latest drivers.
Western Digital 20 gig hard drive
Western Digital 80 gig hard drive (scrapped off a computer that had died due to extreme amounts of viruses)
512MB of RAM, not sure what type, hard to find (it was a total pain coming up with 384 MB, cost me like $120) and expensive to build, and old (my mobo was built on 01)
Intel Pentium 4, 1.8Ghz
Cheap-o sound card that came with this ex-office computer
Two CD-ROM (not even DVD-ROM. Just CD.) drives, 52x I believe. Came in a box of junk given to me.
and, all that junk is mounted within a battered and bent (to the point where the rear end doesn't close properly) Dell Invision 8200 case.
All it takes is a bit of tweaking, constant maintanence, and running absolutely NOTHING in your system tray (I have the volume control and a RAM-freeing program running all the time, thats it.)
I have the fastest computer that I know of (I swear, thats not a challenge!), but still the lowest specs I have seen (Im sure there are some out there with worse) on a gaming computer. Even my cousin's new Dell XPS can't keep up on most things. He can still run FEAR smoother, but that's about it.
As always, this post is too long.
