Make sure you put the FS9.1 updater INSIDE the Flight Simulator 9 folder... the same place FS9.exe is located BEFORE you run it

If you run it outside the folder it will most likely corrupt the modules during the update process

It works best if SP2 is also properly installed in Windows

These are things I've already heard and really can't understand. :-/

Not joking here guys, I did patch FS9 to 9.1, and when I did I remember that the updater I started from the desktop, and can clearly remember that at the times I had not yet installed the SP2, and FS did not corrupt itself.

Note that I'm not telling to do differently, I'm simply curious. If starting the updater from any other site and under any other SO version, corrupts FS9, why didn't mine? :-?

As for the SP2, and those who have FS9 installed under, say, Win Me, or Win2K? What should they do? :-?

On lower hardware you may notice performance loss.. it may not corrupt every module or how do you know you have full FS9.1 support if you are not running high end hardware?

however when MICROSOFT tells you to put that updater in the FS9 folder SPECIFICALLY in the install instructions... I WOULD DO IT

I have seen more people complain of problems after screwing that install up than any other reason

http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsi ... sp#install

Installing the Update

Download and save the Update file fs91upd.exe to your Flight Simulator 2004 directory. (For example, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9.)
Double-click the Update icon and follow the instructions on the screen.
When installation is complete, you'll get a message stating the update was successful.

Also

ANYONE who wishes to read and try the items in that thread I posted PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE THREAD because there can be problems that crop up for MANY DIFFERENT REASONS

BACKUP FIRST before attempting and make sure your hardware is up to the task of performance tuning

Thanks Nick...I read something about that yesterday...Is putting the updater inside the FS9 folder the only concern before installing?

My system will have Windows XP Media Center 2005, I shouldn't have to worry about that needing updates/service packs, right?

It's already been shipped, can't believe it

when I bought it last summer mine didn't have the 9.1 patch, although I think there were some small changes from the first batch, because Meigs isn't the default airport, which I heard it was originally, and also they didn't announce that they were closing it until after the game came out, ignore this if I am wrong.

I think you're wrong. I have a special Gold Edition which was sent to me before FS9 was offically released. In fact they sent two as the first one was faulty. Meigs was never the default airport in FS9. AFAIK

Not that it matters as this is one of the first things I change after install.

Just an update (if anyone is interested)...

Just got my Dell XPS410 day before last and yesterday received FS9 and Lock On Gold. FS9 came updated already with version 9.1 and runs great with high settings!! A new experience for me especially with my 20" widescreen LCD. Uploaded Captain Sim's B757 and I'm a happy camper. I'll try some freeware later today.

As for Lomac, second CD (Flaming Cliffs expansion) worked fine with installation. There were issues with that early on. Then I put the 1.12 patch and it's good to go. Look's great too on high settings. Gotta do some serious reading with this game though and configure my joystick for both games.

Anyway, needed to share that with someone...oh, and the wife loves the scrabble game I got for her, but the computer struggles with it a little ::) NOT!!
