You don't have to worry about crosswinds on an ILS approach, except at the very end - the autopilot will do the 'crabbing' for you, until the very last phase when you turn it off and do the final flare and landing.


No auto pilot !  Until you've mastered landings ! Especially ILS ..  ::)

Flying an approach (by hand) in a stiff crosswind is an important skill  ;)

It is a fact tho', I get my trusty Sim Cessna 152 CC-KDF out of the hangar every day for a spot of practice, just to keep ship-shape.... ;)...!

...and it still is easier to fly the Trainer for real, that it is in the Sim!.... :o...!

Okanother tip which involves as previously said looking at the whole rwy.  If you are on the correct approach the image of the rwy should be stationary on your cockpit window. If you sense it moving up then you are going below the glideslope (add power) If you see it sinking then you are going above the glideslope (reduce power).
It is absolutely essential to fly the approach at the correct speeds especially in a jet transport. Because a good landing is made at the top of the glideslope!!
That means if you establish on the glideslope at the correc t speed and the correct angle you will only need small control inputs thus avoiding a snaky approach and being offcentre at touchdown.
In a jet transport establish at no more than 180kts IAS with first stage flaps, about 8nm out lower the gear and second stage flaps reduce airspeed to 160kts.
Over the outer marker or about 4nm full flaps and 140kts.
Aim to be at 130kts at screen height (that is 35ft above the rwy threshhold).
Remember small inputs always and "don't overcorrect"
