reverse thrust

I have the bottom 20% of my X52 throttle set to do the reverse thrust (there is a 'notch' on the throttle at the 20% & 80% points so you know where you are) - I find that works really well.

Otherwise you have to hit F1 first to idle the engines & then F2 to activate the reverse thrust.
