Probably classed as suitable but not on any official lists. Would definately not be now as it is no longer MOD controlled...

from what i noted. augmented landing sites are airports with special equipment to handle space shuttles.

Edwards is in CA.

The one in FL is the Shuttle Landing Facility, with the Launch pads, and the VAB right near by. It is all an interconnecting facility.

As to it's ICAO, I just looked through the 7350.7T and neither one is listed... X68 or KTTM. I find this curious as the Crew flies into here in the T-34s...you would figure it would be a listed airport for IFR purposes, than again, maybe not...Does anybody know what the story on this is?

Did a little google search for Kennedy Space Center + ICAO...came up with this little gem...

Looked through the 7350.7 again...the only thing listed for the center is:

Kennedy Space Center Tacan, Titusville, FL TTS with PIE (St. Petersburg AFSS) as the controlling center.

I Don't have my machine hooked up yet...what does FS9 list as the identifer for the Launch?

Yes but the FL landing site is Officially called Shuttle Landing Facility. It is the primary landing site that is aimed for.

Formely X68, now TTS. And surprisingly, open to the public...I find this odd since I wasn't able to find it in the ICAO guide last night.

As to required lengths...Cherry Point just up the road from here, is listed as an augment emergancy landing and the rwys are only around 8400 a piece.

I can't find any exact figures, but I would assume at least 8K and able to handle at least 230,000 lbs.
