Any ideas as to which cards this tweak applies to. So far 9800, 9800XT and X800. 9200 anyone?

I have a 9600xt and it was set to 255 I moved it back to 64 and noticed a definate smooth out one of the best tips for overall gameplay yet. Didnt really effect framerate but the smoother gameplay made it seem like I gained some. NICE!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D But I never check my framerate I dont want to now. As long as its smooth I dont care. :o

[quote]Out of curiosity, I just ran "3Dmark 05' and it definately ran smoother with no "stutter" as before even in "demo" mode.
Of course it did go down to 1-2 FPS at time as always but nothing

K, might try it with my 9200 and report back with results.

[Update: Decided not to try the tweak. I'm happy with my card as it is and I just got this laptop, don't really want to , mess it up]

Hi there,
Just for the NVidia cards around here:
Tried it on my Gainward FX5600 Ultra - works great. Set it to 64 at first, then 32. No improvement in framerates but no more stutters at all. I use the NL2000 scenery a lot and man, did it stutter. Not anymore  ;D

Cheers

After a lot of experimentation with this I can say that it certainly works and seems to have NO bad effects on any software that I use....and greatly improcved fs2004.  I am sitting at 64 now.

I also found another great ........and amazingly obvious solution for the last remnants of framerate and stutter issues.  I have NO idea WHY it fixes things....... but it does.

Delete your fs9.cfg file and restart the sim.  How many times have wee seen this suggestion?  It is powerful! When you re-start... the sim regenerates a new one.  Then go back in and put any lines you changed back in.... like maybe the "OldSound" line or increased DEFAULT_TERRAIN_RADIUS or whatever.

Smooths everything out and maxes framerates.

I have to check line by line the two .cfg files I now have saved to see what lines I am not noticing that may have changed by this procedure... to see WHAT might be the difference(s).

best,

.................john

Interesting find!

I've seen no improvement under FS9 or CFS3 - My 6800LE provided that!

However, Battlefield Vietnam & Doom 3 are greatly improved!

Nice one!  8)

Strange, 3D Mark 2001 is lower, 03 higher and no change in 05 !  Benchmarks, I hate them!  ::)

There is another gaming tip on improving performance I found references to in multiple "hardcore gaming" sites that I likely will try out soon too.  This one is only good if you happen to have a P4 with Hyperthreading running (which I now do).

You assign FS to use virtual processor 0 ..... and any XP background applications and services that need to keep running to use virtual processor 1 (or vice versa).  That keeps things in their own "places" and not getting in the way of each other.

How do I do this trick. I have a P4 w/HT
Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) ,2.70 gigahertz AMD Phenom II X6 1045T(6-core), two HD (1TB and 500GB), 8gb RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5570,

I'll have to see how well it works with a PCI-X card...!  Glad to see I have company with this problem!

Hmmm...not showing any latency set...Methinks I'll just leave it alone!

Is this possible for all graphics cards?
I have a GF6600GT, and I have a stutter problem too.
I downloaded the PCI Latency program, but I can't say I know what to do next.
Is it the Device Name "nVidia Corporation DevID: 0140" I should change the settings for.
It says "Latency 000" for that one. What does that mean?

Tried it with my Fx5700le 128Mb and latest Nvidia drivers in the demanding add-on scenery of my personal hub (Napulevola Naples Photoreal + LIRN 2005) and had to roll back.

It not only messed up the textures, but somehow my FPS were halved as well.

It's just not meant to be for me, it seems. :(

Edit: it seems that one of the pieces of that scenery simply hates this tweak. More, I had to shut off the PC before it began working correctly, even a reboot wasn't enough. ???
