I fly because if I didn't I would wither, dessicate, die and mummify.

I fly because i have to. If I don't fly I feel sick.

I fly because it's a challenge that makes you face some tough obstacles and it's such a great feeling to be up there, flying over those obstacles.

I fly because I like the smell of av-gas.

I fly because I like the smell of av-oil.

I fly because I like the sound my engine makes.

I fly because I can do something that other people can't do ...

I fly because it's hard. Because it's fun.

Because there is something more than just fun in lifting off the ground on your own means.

Humans are not supposed to fly ... there's a shade of defiance in lifting off the earth. You are doing something you weren't meant to do.

I fly because up there you have more freedom than down here ... you have a 3rd dimension to contend with. It will entertain you. It will take you places you couldn't imagine. If you don't pay respect to the 3rd dimension ... it will kill you.

Flying is like petting a tiger. As long as you are good, the tiger will purr like a kitty and curl at your feet (all 300 pounds of it).

And I am, most definetly ... a cat person.

I fly because the view is awesome.

It's good for the soul to see beautiful places. Even if down here it looks seedy and it's smelly and dirty. And every piece of earth is a beautiful place from up there.

I fly because I like the sky.

While flying in real life is better than flight simulator ... flight simulator is the closest thing you can get.

I would say that FS is only 70% as good as real life (in terms of fun and fulfillment).

the advantage is that you don't pay by the hour, you don't have insurance costs and nobody dies if you screw up.

So on a bad weather day I am very happy to fire up FS and get my flying fix that way. It might not be the real thing but i have to confess that it's a sinful vice I gladly use in replacement of real life, when I can't fly.

And it does work.

On second thought ... I don't think I could live without Flight Simulator either.

I like everything that moves - animals, traffic ...

And I like maps, atlasses, cards, GPS.

If I combinate the two: there you have FS.

Flying for real is a bit expensive (o yes, I would like to fly) so FS is the second best. A very very very good second best ..... it's great!

I fly because I have a passion for aviation. This satisfies me until I'm old enough and have enough money to fly for real. With my ultimate goal being to join the Air Force and go on to fly for a major airline. FS9 is the best!!! ;D ;D

Oh, and I forgot to mention: FS is the only thing that stops the voices in my head...oddly enough, they sound just like ATC.  ;D

Very, very elloquent marco.  I was considering making a list, but I've become a lazy poster on the forums and mine wouldn't have held a candle to yours anyway ;)

Marco said it probably the best. It's a wonder God allows us to fly with machines when we weren't clearly designed to naturally. As for me, originally when I was a toddler I went on a couple of flights and was fascinated by the big jets themselves, the fact that it was some monstrous machine that could fly in the air where people could only jump a few feet.  Then there were the dreams of being a pilot and those dumb career questionaires they give kids in junior high. Around the time I started playing FS on the old 5.4" floppies. Today my best guess why I fly FS is a mixture of the fascination with flying machines and the sense of freedom, roleplaying commercial aviation flights and restrictive airspace regulations for fun Walter Mitty style, and wonder about moving through the air at several mph and at several thousand feet to get that bird's(God's) eye perspective of the world so it seems the world isn't such a bad place after all. . (also a good escape from the mundane life 8)

Like to fly because its relaxing.  Like to fly because theres freedom up above the ground.  Like to fly to enjoy mother nature's beauty.  Like to fly in flight simulator because I can fly the way I want to!  And thats what makes it really fun!  And of course, the way bird's fly never cease to imaze me  ;D  Its all part of the passion!!  ;D
Cheers,

From the day I opened my eyes I have been facinated with anything with an engine (typical bloke....aged 1 minute?... excellent) So for my 12th birthday when I recieved MSFS 98 i was rather impressed and destroyed many learjets in no time at all! In the following 7 years I have learnt so much from flight sim that from the early days of 'point + full power' I now rarely fly other than from point to point covering many thousands of miles between, i still get the militery jets out for a spin, but I feel more at home on the deck of a(virtual) 747-400 (obviously - a 747 cpt aged 19? I wish) than I do anywhere else - that includes my beloved bed) Aged 12 a pilot would be a 'cool' job ranked behind astronaught and race car driver, but now here I am studying at The University of Birmingham so I can begin training to be a civil airline pilot in three years. MSFS - Not just the best computer software available - but a handy career deciding tool also!

Learning to do a difficult thing well...

I have lost my taste for anything involving shooting (if anyone wants me to explain that PM me...no, I don't judge those of you who like shooting...)

The sheer number of planes and scenery you can download is staggering...this game is more yours depending on how you customize it...

The Forums and screenshots are part of the fun too! ;D
