Yes commoner, two opinions:

MAGnitude and MAGnetic.


Following the democratic way ( .. majority ..) magnetic wins.
Anyway - it's not to me to disagree with WJI: I'm impressed. Someday I even understand it.

Ergo: wind 260/45 mag means:

Wind from direction 260, magnetic course and 45 knots.
Right ?
