Hi Joe D,

Gamecopy World is this site

http://spacetarget.com/games/pc_flight_ ... 2004.shtml

which was the link that Graycat 8524 posted. So I didn't need to search around, because it took me straight there.

Unfortunately it uses .rar file compression, which as Hagar points out, needs a decompression utility like Winrar to open. To get Winrar you then need to visit their site and download a version and mess around some more with that. I might get round to doing that some time, but I'd rather be flying. Naturally it would be a lot simpler if they used zip files, since everybody has Winzip.

I believe Hagar is suggesting that the disappearance of the nocd crack from various FS sites is because M$ is cracking down on piracy.  Let's not forget that $=big bucks, and they don't get called M$ for nothing. So my heart bleeds.

What should be happening is that after the product has been around for long enough, the nocd crack should become more available, since everybody who wanted to buy the product has probably already done so.

Third Wire productions (who have much less $ then M$) did this with STRIKE FIGHTERS. If you go to their page and download the free Phantom, it automatically cancels the requirement for a CD in the drive. Good on them.

There are two kinds of people in this World, my friends: Those who believe that nocd cracks damage the profits of big corporations like M$ and that only dishonest people use them. And those who are irritated by games they have purchased, which require you to jump through hoops to use them.

Thanks for all the advice.

Try EasyZip here. http://www.thefreesite.com/easyzip111.htm
It's freeware & just as good as WinZip. It will extract other compressed formats like RAR.

Okay, Hagar, so I'll make this the last post. I typed FS9.1 no cd patch in the Yahoo search engine, which took me to a German Forum, via Belgium and some nice guy had placed this link:

http://www.simugold.fsnet.co.uk/files/n ... atched.zip

The Germans are so efficient aren't they?
And the site didn't require membership or up-front fees, or weird zip formats like .rar, or anything else. Why can't everything be this simple.

So if anyone else wants to avoid using the fourth disk and wearing out their hard drive, the patch for the updated FS2004 is there.

The pirates will already have got bored with FS2004 months ago - in fact the second they cracked it - and they will have moved on to some other shoot em up by now. Like Call of Duty, or Joint Ops.

If M$ wants to make sure that people buy their Sims, they really should go back to the good old days and include hefty manuals, maps and stuff in a big box. When you bought a Sim then, it was a major event.

We're all adults here who bought these Sims in good faith and don't wish to ruin our original disks or hard-drives with copy protection designed to foil the criminals. The criminals know how to crack games instantly anyway, so copy protection just gives them a minor challenge. It's the honest users who suffer.

Not everyone here is an adult.  Yes, I'm 29, but I see lots of 13, 14 and 15 year olds here.  This isn't to say that age determines behavior, because it definitely doesn't.

Mine is a legitimate copy.  I know for a fact that there are people here who do not have a legal copy.  It's just not advertised because SimV has some awesome rules regarding illegal activity.  (It's very admirable, I might add.)

I agree that the honest users get the short end of the stick.  It's sadly another case of the few criminals trying to ruin things for the rest of us.  But luckily there are just as many opportunities (eg the no-cd patch, the Viper, the 737 Generation project, IFDG, MelJet, POSKY...) for those of us who want quality freeware products.
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.

I meant "adult" in attitude, rather than "adult" in age, and intended no slur on the honest teenagers.

I'm shocked to hear that there are people here who do not have legal copies, but then, despite my age, I have this naive belief in human goodness.

You're right about Freeware - that's how I try to give it back.

Kinda wish FS2004 was like FS2002 i believe, in which you install it and there isnt a need to have the cd in.  Personally after flying FS2004 so much, my Disc 4 is starting to see some noticible scratches from either being in the cd rom too much (maybe not, since all thats touching is the center), or from me just taking it in and out of the case frequently, argh hehe.  Maybe i should get separate jewel cases for my discs...

Cant blame MS though... sigh...
Cheers,
RB

Apart from FS98, FS2002 is the only M$ sim in the FS/CFS series that requires no CD in the drive to run. Being the old cynic I am, I always assumed that this was an oversight on the part of M$ rather than deliberate policy. Whatever the reason, they reintroduced it with CFS3 & FS9 so draw your own conclusions.

Personally after flying FS2004 so much, my Disc 4 is starting to see some noticible scratches from either being in the cd rom too much

I have FS98, CFS1, FS2000, FS2002, CFS2 & FS9 installed, all legitimate, which I use mainly for troubleshooting these days. I don't need the CD in the drive to run any of them & they're all sitting safely on the shelf.

I should be noted that many "games" that originally needed a CD in the drive in order to play have since had this requirement removed by the title's publisher after much protesting by legal owners.

The latest example would be HL-2 that recently had the CD requirement removed by the latest offical patch via steam.
All a CD requirement does is incovienence legal /honest owners.

There are much better ways to prevent piracy and personally, I have no problem with internet or Phone activation if that's what it takes to prevent it

Perhaps MS will see the light with FS-10

Heya Indio Black,

Thanks for the better link to the 9.1 No CD File.  If I'd searched longer I may have found that one!

Merry Christmas to all -- and to all a good flight.

Best of New Years to you all!!

One thing I dont understand is how all these crack sites are allowed to stay open  ???

I mean with all the hoopla about downloading music and movies off the internet, but yet they allow stealing of other programs, and I dont care what the crack sites say about it all being "legal"  :(

If ya dont pay for it, then it is stealing.....
