That FS9 update, if I'm remembering correctly, it goes back a bit, is/was to update the bridges in FS9. Not sure of anything else. That update was free, and from Microsoft.

I do not recall anything about replacing the FS9.exe file. I don't think you should do that.

So the question now becomes, where did you download that update from? Was it from Microsoft, that is, did you download it from Microsoft's website?

Any other ideas from anyone out there? I'm working off of whatever I can recall I did with FS9 a few years ago, I don't remember exactly, except I downloaded some update
from Microsoft's site, and my bridges got better, and no comment on my 4th CD yes/no without my lawyer present.

And again, this no-CD stuff is best answered by Google research. Due to the legality involved, we can't commit ourselves to a direct answer because, as Fozzer said, every
3 letter organization in the world will find us, including the SimV MOD squad and the giant squid from 20,000 Leagues, and, uhh, yeah, taunt us. Can't have that, can we?

So say we all.

I'm not worried about the CIA, FBI, or whatever. If they can manage to bungle up a simple thing like Benghazi, how are they going to fare with a complicated problem such as mine. Nonetheless, the UPDATE was from a link. But this is getting out of hand. I don't want any of you guys landing up in Gitmo. So to solve my problem I will just buy another copy of the FS9. No laws against that as long as I pay for it. Thanks much gents.

The update did replace the fs9.exe. Not to worry though. Rename it fs9exe.org and than install that what we are not allowed to mention. Works fine.

Bubble...I have modified the fs9.cfg file to death. Then I downloaded the No CD patch. Saw the same message as you. So,I reinstalled the original, unmodified fs9 cfg, then added the patch.THEN,I copied all of the modifications i made from my modified fs9.cfg and pasted the modifications in the appropriate places in my stock fs9.cfg and started my game. All went well!

I would be very careful downloading any kind of pirated software and that is what you are technically doing as you may get harmful things along with the software that can turn your computer into a Paper weight. Most of the download sites have forbidden this software on there systems so if you do manage to find it there is no telling what else might come with it.
Trojans :rootkits and all other kinds of undesirable garbage
And no I am not trying to scare you this is as real as it gets downloading what are called cracks can be very dangerous and turn your computer into a useless piece of junk.
And getting rid of the unwanted garbage can be expensive and is time consuming. Unless you have a copy of Windows that will allow you to reinstall it I would tell you NOT to do it.

If this is about the FS9.exe that rids one of the need to load FS9 up with out a disk (4), I have used it for quite some time now,and it is safe. I have been programming my own programs and such, and made my own Windows before there was a Microsoft,so taking the small program in question apart and looking it over wasnt much trouble, and I see it as safe.Your advice is sound in general. There are some cleverly hid viruses and such. They even place them (code) into jpg pics now.You download a picture and 'wham!'...you've got a 'bug'. However, this program we spek of works fine and is clear of trouble.

Nonetheless, what i was saying was that I download the No-CD Patch for FS2004 but did not run it because I downloaded a copy of the "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight (UPDATE)" and it stated that there may be a problem if I replace certain files including the FS9.exe. What say you?

Not to mention Section 31 (Starfleet Black Ops Intel), the Tal Shiar (Romulan Intelligence), and the FCA (Ferengi Commerce Authority)! Believe me, the FCA is worse than the IRS!

As many have said, the 'No CD Patch' technically is a 'crack file' and the Update to 9.1 is exactly that; an Update.

That being said, I've loaded both, and have no difficulties at all with the Sim. The No CD patch was compiled so long ago that it should be a non issue today. No intentions of malfeasance here; to be honest, it's a sure fire way of preserving Disk # 4 of the FS 9 set, and I've found that load times are actually faster!

The instructions that should have come with the No CD program states that if you have modified the FS9.cfg file, you shouldnt use the No CD. However, I had modified my FS9.cfg and flattened certain areas so my home made AFCAD files would lay nicely in the scenery and made some other changes for the joystick and more. So,what I did was replace my modified FS9.cfg with the default, and loaded the No CD up. Once that was done, I replaced the default FS9.cfg with my modified FS9.cfg file and have had no problems. That is a 'do one time and forget it' task,as long as you dont have to reinstall your FS9 sim. I have had to do this several times as some of my other work (non-sim related) had crashed my computer and I've had to format my hard drive and lose everything.Luckily,I had saved all my AC and modified files to a flash drive (memory stick) and reinstalled and reloaded everything. In none of my reinstallations, when following the same routine of using the default FS9.cfg,then adding the No CD file then reinstalling my modified FS9.cfg have I had any problem and works like a charm. And yes,it does seem to load the game a little faster. Not by much, but hey...I'm not in a big hurry. ... just an added note. If you're worried about wearing out your FS9 disk 4 by taking it in and out of your drive,Microsoft permits copying disk 4 only. Disks 1-3 aren't to be copied.

It's not so much a question about the disk, i'm more worried about the dvd rom

That is quite true I used to use it myself. The problem is that it might be hard to find. As I stated in my post most download sites have removed this from there library. I know for a fact that AVSIM removed it from there site as I use to be a library editor. If you can find this at a reputable site by all means go for it. I was merely pointing out the hazards that one can get from downloading anything from a site they are not familiar with. NO insult intended.
Just my way of saying be careful what and where you download files from.

That's good to know Stephan. Heck, if that's the case, then I don't think Microsoft cares if you download and use the NoCD
tool. I think ya know why.
