..its that time again..

Its a funny old do...

On very rare occasions, after many years of problem free running, my (trusty) FS 2004 has decided to generate various little annoyances.....

...missing bits and bobs, "stuff" not recognised/running, scenery missing/corrupted, etc...etc.. :'(...!

So now is time for an un-install, and a fresh reinstall...and the tiresome job of re-installing all my zillions of tasty little add-ons which always takes..FOREVER!
There comes a time, in every Flight Simmers sad, lonely life, that you realise that all your frustrations can only be cured by new; Wife/Mistress/Lover?/Girlfriend/Job/Car/Wallpaper/Flight Sim re-installation... ::)....!

The annoying bit for me, is that it prevents me joining all my many Multiplayer Pilot Chums this week-end, until its all sorted, and up and running again..

..but there again..it would be a boring life without a few FS 2004 little annoyances...now and again... ;)..!

..(And the new Girlfriend is rather tasty, and cooking my dinner as I type....She promises something nice for pudding, afterwards.. :-*..)....!

Paul...dusting away the Cobwebs!... ;)...!

Paul,
Just wondering (cause I've been wanting to put a fresh coat of FS9 on my computer) what
do ya do about all the little personal mod's when you reinstall. Stuff that's in the aircraft folder like Aircraft.cfg,..Sounds,..Gauges & so on.

There are so many "notepad" tweeks in there alone, how do ya deal with them on a reinstall? :-/

Sure as heck don't want to loose them! :o

Hello Dwayne...

I generally pray...a lot... ;)... ;D...!

When Un-installing with No.1 Disk you are given to option to remove everything, or KEEP all your own saved files...tick/untick the box...

...then pray... ;)...!

Remember, you have to re-install all (payware?) add-on programs that were installed in the first place...still got all the product keys?... ::)...!

Sometimes, things work out OK....depends how hard you prayed...and how much you meant it..trust me... ;)...!

..now I've got problem No. 478...

After I've un-installed FS 2004, I now find that there is a small crack extending from the centre hole In Disk No.1, to the Data in the middle of the disk...
..which means the installation fails..(cant find file!)...Bugger!..
I've always kept the disks safely in their Jewel Case, since new in 2004...
..so I don't know how that happened!

Just ordered a new FS 2004 copy form Amazon this afternoon...delivery next Wednesday 23rd Jan...

LOL!! ;D Thank You Sir.

Yeah, this is something I've been wanting needing to do for almost a year.

Twice now I've loaded the chamber and had my finger on the trigger, then my
pulse sped up.. I broke out in a sweet and then put the bullet back in it's box. :-/

What you said is soooo true (PRAY..PRAY..PRAY!) it's a bugger cause once you pull
that trigger, it's a while till ya see weather you screwed up or not. So you have time
to reflect on your decision.

Ahh.. those life altering decision, what to do.. what to do. :)

Never fear, Dwayne... ;)...

A brand, spanking, new copy of FS 2004 will soon be winging its way to me by next Wednesday, so I can put my copy of FSX back against the kitchen door again, to stop it from closing.

All is not lost...I did pray quite hard... ;)...!

..at the moment...

..'cos of the the temporary disaster with my "trusty?" FS2004 (details above), I am forced to use my FSX for a while...

..and at the moment, one of the good things about it, (FSX), is, whilst I am flying using Multiplayer, and waiting for someone to turn up... ::)..., I can use the admirable services of; Air Traffic Control, (which is not possible with FS 2004.. :'(...), to pas the time with, and someone to chat with in the Tower... :-*...!

So FSX is not all; "bad news"... ;)... ;D...!

Mind you...the scenery is naff, compared to my FS 2004!... ;)...!

Paul...FSX'ing for a while... 8-)...!

Hi Paul, I could have sorted you out if I'd known, same kneck of the woods an all.

Suggestion for you, when you get your new FS disc's, do what I did, and make them into 1 disc, DVD, then your originals never get damaged and you can put the update and no-cd all on the same disc.  I'm guessing you would know how to do that, but if not, let me know and I will talk you through it.

Best regards

Rich

Sorry to hear of your FS9 woes Paul!

I re-installed FSX just so I could use the Alabeo WACO...I refuse to run it for anything else at the moment. My FS9 has too many good 'bits and bobs' and runs too smooth for me to think of FSX...unless I get an itch for the WACO...

Re: My damaged FS 2004 Disk 1...

I always have my doubts about that fancy; "push button" in the centre of the Jewel Case which retains the CD(s).
Its often very hard to push down, and its often necessary to remove the Disk(s) by lifting one edge of the CD with the finger nails at the same time, which all puts a strain on the CD, and could cause it to crack!

For the new set of FS 2004 CD's, I think I will ignore the magic button, and just keep the four CD's in their paper envelopes instead, within the Jewel Case.

Paul....a Jewel in the Crown!.. ;)...!
