Just read the installation instructions and follow them exactly. But even then...  I still haven't got the three add-on Firefox textures to show, or the Howard 500 cargo texture add-on.

gallimorep. You don't say which textures you mean. Aircraft or scenery?

Just read the installation instructions and follow them exactly. But even then...  I still haven't got the three add-on Firefox textures to show, or the Howard 500 cargo texture add-on.

I just checked out the Firefox & it should be perfectly straightforward. First of all make sure you have the correct base model installed & working correctly. That's the
FS2002/4 Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-31 Firefox by Owen Smoot on this page. http://www.simviation.com/fs2004military1.htm

Then paste the 3 texture folders from Firefox-T.zip into the Firefox main folder. These folders are named texture.desert, texture.navy & texture.weathered
Finally add the 3 new [fltsim,x] entries from Special Readme.txt to Aircraft.cfg. These are already numbered correctly to follow on from the existing [fltsim.0] entry. You should now have 4 different variations of the Firefox.

The right base model.  That's probably the problem. :P

Or not.  :o

Deleted the old one, downloaded and reloaded the base and alternated texture pack, un-zipped the downloads, re-installed everything, added the text to the aircraft.cfg,  pasted the three texture files into the firefox folder, and still no alternate textures. :-?

How many time am I supposed to be stomping my left foot during a "cut-n-paste", again?  :D

Did you run FS9 to make sure the new base model was installed correctly before attempting to add the new textures? If that's not listed on the selection menu there is no chance the other variations will be.

Yup.  Brought it up, flew it around, exited, installed the new texture pack, including the modifications to the .cfg, started it back up again, the base model was there, but not the new alternate paints.

(I think someone else mentioned they had the same problem in another thread.)

That's exactly what I have.  The only thing I can see that is different is that I kept the original aircraft.cfg (renamed aircraftorig) and I am on a Vista machine, which should not make a difference.  Majority of other add-on texture packs work.  The only other one that has problems showing up, that I recall off the top of my head, is the Howard 500 Cargo texture.

Could be something very simple like a typo or duplicate entry. I haven't tried the Howard.

I can see where a typo would be a problem, but there was no typing involved, unless I missed something.  The new texture upgrade is pretty much all "cut-n-paste" or "Drag-N-Drop" files in the Firefox folder and editing the cfg.

If you did it exactly like mine it should work. The only possible explanation is that you missed something.

I'm checking out that Howard. It looks a tad complicated & appears to involve installing the original aircraft (hw5vc4.zip) here --> http://www.simviation.com/fs2004props25.htm
+ this upgrade http://www.simviation.com/fs2004props27.htm

before adding the new variation posted here. --> http://www.simviation.com/fs2004props160.htm

Yup.  The Howard has a few hoops to jump through.  Have the originals, yadda, yadda, and so on.

I've gone through the Firefox several ties looking for what I missed, and if I did miss anything, it's probably one of those "obvious" things that's going to leave a mark on my forehead (from when I smack it) after I find out what I missed.

For the Howard....

Like Hager states, you need the original with the cargo upgrade installed, and working, before adding the cargo texture addon.

When you copy and paste the new section for the cargo addon texture(and change the XX to the proper number), you have to remove the author's instructional text I've highlighted, else it won't work.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Yup.  That was removed when I edited the cfg.  The Howard worked before, and still works, just no new version.
