Bouncing Aircraft, Colapsing Nose Gear...

Postby Triple_7 » Thu Dec 20, 2007 12:52 pm

...Now I'm getting pissed >:(

Don't know what the problem is.  Its happened to many aircraft from all different makes.  Change views from cockpit to spot and the aircraft bounces like it was just dropped.  Some aircraft can tolerate this to a point but others the nose gear collapses the second it happens.  I'm tired of starting a flight for my VA, getting everything set up, and then have the nose gear collapse either during taxi or even landing >:(

There has to a reason for this and I really need to fix it.  As I mentioned its not just one type, this has happened on Poskys, Meljets, IFDG...and then some.  It used to just be a few aircraft but now its happening on almost all of them.  I just want to have a normal flight where I make it off the ground and don't have to worry if the nose gear is still sturdy enough for a landing :'(

I really would like to find a solution...I'm going to begin backing everything up for a reinstall but I really would like to avoid that measure if possible.

I've seen this mentioned before but can't think why changing views would cause anything like it. Now this is just a shot in the dark so bear with me. It sounds like what often happens when you change back from Slew Mode after moving an aircraft across the airfield. Is this how you originally set up your default flight? The answer to that is to press F1 after slewing to put the aircraft at ground level before going back to normal mode.

Cant say I've ever used slew mode before.  All my normal flights begin by setting up a fight plan, fuel, weather, etc all on the main page, for VA flights start at a gate.  Click "Fly Now" and their I am.  I usually start getting things ready in the cockpit first and get my IFR plans filed.  Then I like to take a quick look about just before pushback.  Only thing I do is switch views, normal order of Cockpit, VC, Tower, then Spot.  The bouncing takes place only after the transition from tower to spot, doesn't matter how quickly I flip through views.  Also doesn't matter if the aircraft is moving.  I can be going 100 knots on takeoff and switch views, leads to a lot of smoking tires :-[

Ah well, it was worth a try. I've never experienced anything like it so I'm out of ideas. Does this happen with default aircraft or just addons?

PS. Is this using default scenery?

Had to go test fly a default, never have flown one since I've owned FS9 :P  They do it as well but not to the extreme, but lets face it the defaults suspensions are not exactly that great.

Seems like its officially every aircraft making me think towards a glitch in the sim...possibly caused by an add-on scenery some months ago.  Leaning towards a complete FS wipe out and reinstall just to see what happens.  Currently the sim is officially useless for my VA flights so a fresh start wont hurt anything.

Only saving my add-on aircraft.  Going to re-download scenery etc and install one by one to see if one of my main ones may have caused this.  If the aircraft start this bouncing again before any new scenery is installed then I'm truly at a loss :-/

I know very little about flying for a VA but don't you fly from regular bases? From what you're saying this appears to be happening on the ground at your departure airport.

I'm with the Flying Tigers Group VA, with them you are pretty much unlimited to airlines.  The whole world is accessible from the original base airlines to the 3 main alliances, and several partners.  I've personally logged time with 36 different airlines, and theres many more :o

Basically the way I have done my VA flights since I first started 3 years ago was to keep a continuous line going always departing from my last arrival destination.  I've been all over the world.  Some airports I fly to lately are add-ons but quite a few are default as well.  Just being on the ground anywhere this will happen.

I haven't had time to really fly around lately but had this afternoon off for once.  Was preparing for a HKG-NRT flight with a Northwest 747-400 (Posky).  Got everything set and had about a minute before pushback.  Decided to take a quick look outside for a shot and to make sure I wouldn't pushback into the nose of a passing aircraft as I've done in the past.  Thats when the nose gear collapsed.

Waisted about 20 minutes or so of my time.  But at least it happened before departure.  Theres been a couple times that the nose survived till takeoff then collapsed on landing.  Makes me scared to do long hauls now :'(

I've seen this happen myself, and I have a feeling that it is a glitch in the sim when it is "smoothing" the elevations. Once or twice I switched to view an AI plane, and saw some pretty strange stuff, such as the ground being above the plane, and as the sim loads the area, it corrects the elevation and smoothens it, this process causes temporary "real" changes in the elevation, causing the airplane to fall short distances, impacting rather hard as the ground is moving up to meet the plane at the same time.

Unfortunately, the only real fix I see to this problem, aside from altering the base code for FS9, is to turn off the crash detection. :-X

I've tried turning off crash detection in the past.  Nose gear still collapses but instead of a crash it just falls into the ground :-/

I backed up all my aircraft and fully wiped out every bit of FS.  Running all my virus scans etc and preparing for a fresh install.  Get the aircraft back in the folder and do a quick defrag.  If the problem still occurs then I will at least know its not an add-on scenery issue.  FS9 has never been wiped out on this system since I installed it.  With a new system blowing a new FS away like I've never seen, and never having experienced the joys of add ons even in FS2002 I played around with many sceneries and different texture packages.  Now I know which ones I am happy with so there wont be a ton of installs and deleting this time.  As well as knowing just what settings to put where I want them.  Hopefully it was just caused by a build up over time of to many texture replacements etc.  This problem didn't exist till about a month ago when a few aircraft began having issues :-/  It needed a wipe out anyways as some of the textures I installed awhile back I hated yet only managed to replace part of them...my US Midwest looked like crap between the horrid add-on textures and default textures mixed together :P

It was a glitch somewhere...probably caused by to many different addons that I constantly installed and deleted till I found a good one.  So far not a single bounce from any aircraft.  Getting some of the scenery reinstalled before I defrag.  Already the sim is running much smoother 8-)

Don't want to spoil your elation, my friend....but I have just done a wipedown, re-install...so only minimum installed.....and still the dreaded bounce.....you learn to live with it. However...I must say...I never get as bad as to do any damage to aircraft. :-/
Best of luck...if you ever find the cause...for gawd sake post it.... ;D ;D

I agree...I've been getting this with every plane since I first installed the sim...just turn off "Aircraft Stress", and forget about it.

...on my piston props I just gently tap, tap, tap the brakes, to bring me to a standstill...!

That way it prevents the nose from dipping excessively, and creating a "Prop strike"... :o...!
