What settings do you run?

Postby J41 » Sun Jun 03, 2007 5:56 pm

On the settings page where does everyone have the sliders for the best results?

I have mine maxed but my view distance around 30 miles. If you have a decent rig you maywant to look at your configuration to fix problems.

Everything maxed out, beside the only drawing distance of horizon and clouds more or less on a middle point.

Everything Maxed (except the water. I prefer "Blue" not Green, moving water). Distance set to 10-20 miles for real-life accuracy.
Weather conditions set as required.

Frame rate average 40 FPS, but locked at 20 FPS..;)...!

Paul.... 8-)...!

Now try those settings in FSX... ::)... ;)... ;)...!

Maxed, distance set to 10-20 miles for real-life accuracy, weather on medium-high. Usually around 30 fps.

Turning down those settings would give the same graphics as fs9.

I run:
Autogen: Very Dense
No ground scenery cast shadows
Sight distance: 70miles
Cloud draw distance: 50 miles
All other sliders maxed out

TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.500000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21
UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=21
TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=210

Framerate always stays at the locked 21fps with no blurries or stutters even with demanding aircraft.

Everything at max except water & distance at 20 miles.  FPS around 30 (locked at 24) or more for the 9150.  No FSX in this machine as the video card isn't up to it but am going to change it for a better one.
For the M1710 FS9 again as above & FPS around 40 (locked at 24)  & with FSX very high settings & FPS around 28 & as high as 40 depending on scenery.   I followed the advice on the FSX fax page.   FSX is very smooth on the laptop.   I bought it to while away wet moments whilst on holiday in the Lake District or anywhere elase for that matter & have just added FSX to FS9 in it.

A GeForce 7900 is not up to snuff for FSX?

Well, I don't have a chance with my GeForce 7600, then.

I should perhaps correct a little my previous post saying that I also have no ground scenery shadow. Because both it has a problem with an add-on I have installed on my private virtual hub (LIRN) of shadows hanging on thin air AND because it takes too much power for what it does. But yes, I have pretty much everything else firewalled or next to.

This might be a stupid question. Where to set the sight distance to 10-20 miles? If I go to Settings --> Display --> Weather the minimum setting for sight distance is 60 miles.

To answer the topic, I've got everything maxed out, locked at 20 fps.

Crash ;)

Hello Crash...;)...!

Menu > Weather > User defined > Customise  > Set Visibility, etc.....

During my occasional trips aloft in my local Club's Cessna 152, anything over 10 miles distance (or less) is mostly hazy, and unclear...even on a fine day....."As real as it gets!"...;)...!

If the weather is poor its obviously much less...!

Many folks here complain about objects and scenery in the distance looking "blurry".....That's exactly what it's like in real life!...Trust me!.... ;)...!

Objects and scenery gradually become clearer as you get closer to them..;)..!

Paul....Peering through the mist.... 8-)...!

P.S. During "Multiplayer" flights I always set the Default Weather to "Clear Weather" to obtain the best/smoothest frame rates, especially if your Clouds are set to "Dense/Complex"... 8-)...!
"Weather" is a frame-rate hogger... :o...!

This card is in the M1710 laptop & FSX is as smooth as whatever!
The card I am going to upgrade is the 6800 in the Dimension 9150   ::)
