Preview Missing?

Postby Greystone » Mon Jan 22, 2007 7:36 am

I have installed some new add-on aircraft recently, and now I don't get a preview (rotating 360 degree view) when I go to select an aircraft.  I know I screweed up somehow, but do not know how to restore my previews.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This happens with all aircraft? Instead of the rotating aircraft you only see a black square? If so, check the anti-aliasing setting of your videocard. It's probably too high. FS9 can't handle anti-aliasing settings higher than 4x.

Yup.  Happens with all aircraft.  Antialiasing set to 2X didn't help.  I must have overwritten the key preview file by mistake when installing an aircraft upgrade.  If anyone knows the correct filename I can try to unscrew this.

Crash, you were right afterall.  I got the fix from the FlyAway forum:  If you install new nVidia forceware drivers (WHICH I DID) you need to go into the nVidia Control Panel advanced section to tweak the antialiasing settings to 4X.   Sorry about the confusion, but maybe this will help some other unfortunate user.  Thanks a bunch!! :D

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys.  I do like the look of SimV.  I also have two things in common with Sir Crash:  I have an MB 320E, and I LOVE those little short plaid skirts. ::)

FS9 can't handle more than 4x nVidia AA.

I'm running 6x on my ATi card and see previews just fine  ;)

Can it handle 8x ATI? You never told. :-?

And anyway a way to have 8X AA and the preview exists. Simply fly in windowed mode, like I do (mostly due to a FSNav bug of slow as famine refresh in full screen mode). It works.

I can't vouch for 8x as I don't have personal experience with it...

No worries Crash  ;D

I'd happily say bye bye to my preview (I have an NVida based card), if only setting AA to 8x didn't have, in my case, negative consequences (frame rate hit and a less than pleasant look of the text information in FS2004). So I settled to 4x.
