CFG File edit

Postby logjam » Sun Feb 17, 2013 11:11 pm

I can't edit my aircraft.cfg file, or any for that matter. I have windows 8 and when I add a panel for instance and try to edit the .cfg file, I can get to the save file screen and then it won't let me save. I seem to remember something about it in the dark ages, anyone remember how to do it? :-?

Probably the same problem as Win 7.  Copy the .cfg to your desktop, make your edits and save, then copy it back from the desktop to your aircraft folder, say "yes" to the over-write.

Having full-blown Administrator Rights for my computer, I found the beauty of installing my software to "Program Files" is that the computer "Control Panel" has a section which lists all the installed programs, and enables one to correctly un-install a program when required, when a full un-installer is not included with the program!

As Administrator, I have no problems in modifying any files installed in Program Files.

Fortunately, the Flight Sims can be installed directly to the "C" Drive if required, as the Flight Sim DVD's include their own un-installer.

"Deleting" files on a Drive, instead of correctly un-installing them, is always a bad move.

I always make sure I have full Administrator Rights on all my computers to avoid any problems.

This is a bit off-topic but providing it's installed correctly it shouldn't make any difference to the uninstaller wherever the software is located. The Windows "Remove Programs" feature looks for & runs the uninstaller included with the software. What does cause problems is when some auto-installers for FS addons overwrite the FS default uninstal.exe. This is one of the reasons I never extract these things direct to the FS root directory.

Thanks chaps! BTW my windows 8 installer won't let me install FSX, so I installed FS9. I'm just adding all those nice things I used to have before FSX came out. Just 1 thing, I can't get a Hawker Hunter Fga9 for FS9. Anyone know, even a T7

Do not install fsx or FS9 using the default folder if you only have one drive make a folder called MICROSOFT_FS9 or whatever you want.
You must run in administrator mode 8-)
