Gunsite offset on German W/W II fighters - Why?

Postby Gringo6 » Sat Dec 22, 2012 10:46 pm

It seems that many of the German W/W II fighters have the gunsites offset to the right in the 2-D cockpit view. I refer specifically to the Bf-109 and FW-190 models.

I'm sure that there is a reason for this but I don't understand it.

Can someone explain why ?

Thanks, and Merry Christmas !

Well, we can't allow them to shoot straight, can we?

If it's just a panel.cfg thing post it in the panel forum and I'll be grad to download one and make a correction.

It's not just a flight simulator thing, it's actually the way they did things. I've examined cockpit photographs, and they confirm this offset. The pilot seat appears to be on the centerline so he was not offset. Maybe he closed his left eye and only used his right one.

Curious isn't it ?

I'll repost this on the real aviation page. Maybe someone over there knows.

I think you may be close to the truth there Gringo, They didn't close one eye i'm sure,

cause if they were in a dogfight, I think the last thing they want to do is close one eye.

But I think it lines up the site with the vision of the one eye, what I did was made a circle

with my right hand and had both eyes open and while focusing on a distant object it seems

to make a better site picture when I moved it to the right. Just like a handgun, you favor

one eye when you shoot. when your good, you can shoot with bouth eyes open. :)
