Yep, it does run in Windows 7. I have Win 7 Professional 64bit, and it run perfectly.

Do yourself a favor and follow these hints:
1) When installing FS, create a folder for FS9 directly under the C drive and install it to that location, for example C:// Flight Simulator 9
2)After installation, Right click on the program icon, and select properties. Then in the compatibility tab, run in compatibility mode for Win XP SP3, Disable desktop composition, and Run as Administrator.

Thats it. should work fine!

Tried under any version of Win7 under the sun. No problems to report. Just follow the instructions of Jakes and you'll be more than fine.

to each their own, but i have my FS9 on my Win 7 Home Premium (sp1) -- Compatibility Win 7, Run as administrator.  and I get absolutely no backtalk from it. It never argues, complains, whines, nothing. Running wide open as hard as it can, FPS locked at 30 and getting 29.9 steady with no stutters at all. not 1.

but to each their own, I dont really know the difference between the XP (sp3) and Win 7 compatibility to REALLY tell you that you should really change it to Win 7, so just for the sake of it, go for the XP (sp3) Compatibility.

Being a hardware recoverer and re-user myself (though not from the trash, but from my friends, when they want to get rid of perfectly working hardware with the only sin not to be "fashionable" anymore)... though I usually appoint them only for mild software application, like common office uses and/or net browsing (uses for which even a P-III would have still a lot to say), I understand perfectly. :D

The current PC I'm typing on is one of them, an ancient Athlon XP 2200 that is working no stop, 24/7 beside some rare down time for fans and radiators cleaning, ever since 2001... and it's not the only one either. ;D

Of course for games and proper FS use they are effectively inadequate and I use a [relatively] newer one, which is the one in the signature. ;)

I notice that Windows 7 has trouble with some of the videos in FS9.  Other than that, it runs great.
Cheers,

Wash her car, do the laundry, sweep and mop the house, vacuum the floors, dust EVERYTHING, and give her a foot and back massage .. FOR A MONTH, and she might let you use her computer for a week.. lol

just a suggestion.
