FS KBT P-3C Orion on 64-bit Windows

Postby -Crossfire- » Tue Jun 21, 2011 10:07 pm

I'm trying to install the FS KBT P-3 Orion in FS9, and it won't install on a 64-bit version of Vista using the auto installer.  I tried to extract the files, but its a mess of .bmp's and everything else... too complicated for me to assemble the aircraft manually.

Does anyone know how to make a 32 bit installer work in 64 bit Windows?  I tried to google this answer, but no luck...

Thanks,

Wade

An aircraft, when unzipped in a temp folder from an installer, usually is composed by a "Aircraft" folder, inside which there's the main folder(s) that define the plane, and must be moved inside FS9/Aircraft/.

Then usually you have a "gauges" folder which content you must pour into FS9/Gauges/.

And sometimes an "Effects" folder, which content you have to move into FS9/Effects/.

Sometimes, based on the plane's complexity, there may be some other folders that have no match under FS9's folder. Those folders, unless you can be sure they are not of any consequence, must be moved completely under FS9/, to be sure (you can try and remove them momentarily, after the plane works well, to see if they're needed or not, and eventually delete them definitively).

All stray graphical files are simply showcase and are not strictly needed for the plane. Nothing too bad. You only need to pay a little attention to what you do. ;)
There is no such a thing as overkill. Only unworthy targets.

Thanks for the reply... however I know how to install an aircraft manually.  This is not the problem with the KBT P-3.

It's strange with this one... it's almost like a zipped installer... if that makes any sense.  When I click to run it, its says it will not work on a 64bit version of windows.  If I extract all the files into a blank folder.... it lumps them all together... bmp's, Aircraft.cfg, wav's, .air's, guages.... and everything else.  I tried to make my own model, texture, sound, etc. folders, but it's too confusing.

I can't seen to make a link work properlly....  :P

Search P-3C Orion on flightsim.com or avsim... it's the P-3C / CP-140 Aurora by FS KBT.

I downloaded another instance of the aircraft here:http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=lockheed_ep-3e.zip&categoryId=&filename=Y-lockheed_ep-3e.zip. It has the same '2-stage' KBT auto-installer as illustrated by Hagar.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Note: Worked fine for me as I run XP-32. You may still have compatibility issues in Vista-64. I believe you can get around this by configuring 'compatibility mode' for the 'INSTALL.exe' file...

Thanks Dave!
