New 747-8 mix-up

Postby webberernie » Fri Mar 25, 2011 9:44 am

Maybe Im confused but I noticed that a 747-8 intercontintal was uploaded to the site the other day, This is a awesum model  in its own right but has anybody else caught on to the fact that the upload was of the freighter version? and not the passenger version that actually took off the other day? The picture shown was the passenger model but what you get is the Freighter version. I believe that the new 747-8 is basically a 747-400 at least on the outside. With that being said does anybody know where I can get  the right model? in the new colors. :) I prefer opensky planes because they are payware quality. The plane I downloaded is beautiful but I kinda am a perfectionist when it comes to these things. Maybe it was just a mix-up and the wrong picture is being shown. Any help would be appreciated.

Posky has split & is now effectively two separate outfits. http://www.projectopensky.com/

I see that file is by SkySpirit. You might like to check out their website. You will have to be a member of Facebook to access it.

Not even on the outside is it a 747-400. New wings, new engines, a longer fuselage, and all the other modernization goodies make it much, much more than the 747-400.

If you downloaded this: http://simviation.com/1/find-file?fileId=36024

Then it is the Intercontinental. I checked it out for myself and that is not the Freighter version. Are you aware of the differences between the two? The Freighter first flew a year ago with a white and blue paint scheme. The Intercontinental flew the other day in a red, orange and white livery.

Downloaded and installed the one from BrandonF's link, above. It will not get off the ground. I tried it at Johnston Atoll. I tried it at Edwards AFB. It will not rotate, even at above 200 knots. It just ran off the end of the runway at Edwards. Fuel load is max at 429,000 pounds. Also, it shows up as SkySpirit2011 in the list of selectable airplanes, not under Boeing as the ReadMe file says it will. I am not a member of facebook; I got it just by clicking the link. It is a very pretty airplane; nice visual modeling. Just won't fly...

Set the trim to 4.0 for takeoff and it flies wonderfully.  ;)

I have no idea how to do that, but I was able to move the stab trim to 4 once I brought up the visual of the throttle quadrant. Didn't help. Still won't get off the ground...

This is what I did -

Brought up the Throttle quadrant.

Right or Left clicked on the trim setting area as needed until the tooltip showed it was set at 4.0 - NOT .4 or anything else.

The screenshot shows what I am trying to explain.

That's what I tried, too. No joy. I know of no other way to do it...

That is strange - it worked great for me.

If all else fails, substitute the default 747 .air file for the one which comes with the aircraft and edit the sim= line to reflect that name.

example: sim=Boeing747-400

I got it to fly by pumping up the trim to 12 on the throttle quadrant. Gets off the ground very slowly. Might be that 429,000 pounds of fuel...

I don't get that little info tab that you show in your screencap...

Check the edit which was added (regarding having tooltips activated) in my previous message.
