Kneeboard Notes?

Postby Jaypee Dippel » Sun Aug 15, 2010 2:52 pm

Some add-on aircraft include a notepad labeled NOTES to be accessed on the kneeboard while in flight. I have never been able to bring these up on the kneeboard. My aircraft.cfg file is edited as follows:

[fltsim.0]
title=Douglas DC-3
sim=Douglas_DC3
model=
panel=1
sound=
texture=TWA
kb_checklists=Douglas_DC3_check
kb_reference=Douglas_DC3_ref
kb_notes=Douglas_DC3_notes   //TEST ONLY
atc_id=N283TW
atc_id_color=0xff0000 //BRIGHT RED
atc_heavy=0
atc_airline=TWA
atc_flight_number=283
ui_manufacturer=Douglas
ui_type="DC-3"
ui_variation="Trans World Airlines 1953"
description="The DC-3, in 1940, could be bought new for US$80,000. Without a doubt one of the best known aircraft in the world today is still the venerable DC3. A legend in her own time, The Douglas DC3 airliner ranks amongst man's greatest developments in this century. With around 1500 to 2000 in service at the 65th anniversary of her first flight, she is one of the most enduring. Our DC-3 started life as a C-47B. It is 65 years since the first flight."

My notepad file is also named correctly. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?
Perhaps this is a FS2002 feature :-?

Although I don't have FS2002 still installed, I seem to remember there was a "Notes" option on the FS2002 Kneeboard.

FS2004 does not have such an option so I believe it is futile to try to have any "notes" called in the aircraft.cfg file.

None of the default FS2004 aircraft have any kb references to "notes" files so that further leads me to believe it was never incorporated into FS2004.

Thank's Opa, I thought that might be the case, I would still love to be wrong. Unless I hear otherwise I'll forget about it.

You might find this Tutorial useful: omni_notes.zip

Not sure if it is in the library here, but if not, it is available at other sites.

It allows you to add almost anything (graphics, notes, etc. etc.) to the kneeboard and have them available "universally" in any aircraft.

I use this method taken from another thread [possibly on another forum I can't recall ].

ADDING KNEEBOARD STUFF IN FS9

''One thing I have found, is inside your aircraft configuration file there are 2 or more references listed as---} kb_checklists and kb_reference. These control what is put into the knee board under the reference section or the checklists section, by simply copying a HTML file to the folder of a particular aircraft, and then copying and pasting the name of the HTML folder into one of these sections (kb_checklists and kb_reference) in the aircraft configuration. The catch is though each time you want to change the info ya have to change the HTML file in the aircraft file, and the listing under kb_checklists and kb_reference. ''

If I remember correctly, those files do not have to be html - FS will also display regular text (txt) files - but not quite as elegantly.
