Strange View Issue

Postby Papafox » Mon Jan 04, 2010 11:48 pm

Here's a weird one. FS9 runs fine on a friend's computer in full-screen mode, but in windowed mode neither the "s" key nor the menu at the top can properly change views between outside view, virtual cockpit, tower view, etc. When I log onto my friend's computer using logmein.com, the problem goes away and his FS9 works fine in both windowed and full-screen mode! The plot thickens, because he recently tried to add Level D 767 and the views are screwed up in either windowed or full-screen mode. Reinstalling FS2004 does not correct the problem. His computer:

i7 920 cpu on Gigabyte UD5P MB w 6GB DDR3
Nvidia GTX 260 video card (1)
Windows Vista 64

Additional info: logmein.com was not running on his computer when he attemped most of his reinstalls. He has moved the FS9 folder and the FS-9-related folder in AppsData to get a cleaner reinstall but it makes no difference. The problem has been going for so long that restoring windows to an earlier state is not an option. He has FSX installed on the computer with no view issues, but he flies FS9 more often.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thx!

Strange!,
Tell me, what operating system did you use with logmein.com? and have he installed the FS9.1 update??
Maybe it is an issue with Vista?

I have WIndows 7 64 on the remote computer I access the Vista machine from.

The problem has been observed with both FS9 9.0 and 9.1. At one point the system was okay on 9.0 and the problem appeared after the 9.1 upgrade, but on another reinstall the problem made itself known after just the 9.0 install. The one steady parameter is that anytime I access the computer remotely with logmein.com, the views work fine again in both windowed and full-screen mode.

sounds like there is a stubborn file that was missed when he tried to do a "CLEAN RE-INSTALL".

only guessing, and not pointing fingers, maybe something was missed in REGEDIT and was not deleted; or in C:\documents and settings\(user)\application data\microsoft ...

in both places, everything related to MICROSOFT FS9 has to be deleted. and not just to the recycle bin.

also, look in MY DOCUMENTS - Flight Sim Files ..... that has to be deleted as well.

Something, somewhere got corrupted and is not being deleted on reinstalls, and that is what is hanging everything up and causing problems.

Capt. Propwash,
We didn't remove the files from Documents\flightsimfiles. We'll do that removal before the next reinstall (along with the other folder removals) and report back.
thx,

Hi, I wouldn't just blindly delete the flightsim files folder, back it up first then delete it as that is where your created flights are kept.

When doing an un-install, do not forget to delete the FS9 folder which is here in XP -

C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9

In Vista or Win 7 it will have a different path but the folder will be named the same way.

The FS9 folder contains your FS9.cfg amongst other things and it needs to be deleted if you are to have a clean slate to start the install on.

The removal of this folder is not done by the uninstall routine and must be removed manually.

All good suggestions... We moved the folders instead of backing them up so that we could restore them, if possible, and we'll do so with the folder in documents, too. Perhaps moving to the desktop was not complete enough, so they'll be moved to a USB thumbdrive and then physically removed from the computer prior to reinstall. The three folders we will remove are the FS9 folder in program files (x86)\... , the file in documents, and the file in user name\app data\... which is where Vista stores it.
