FS9 performance,better graphic card?

Postby jonny typhoon » Fri May 08, 2009 3:58 pm

Just wondering...

I have a quad core amd athlon 2.2 cpu,and FS9 has fine frame rates-whilst my onboard 256mb card is on performance that is.

Just installed Brize Norton, and frame rates are only 8-10 per second at times.Would a 512mb card enhance frame rates on my PC,for FS9 ? So that i could have the slider nearer 'quality' ,also ?

Any advice most welcome.

It would help that is for sure. But what type of card is it AGP PCI PCI EXPRESS :-?
As a rule any graphics card will usually be better than any on board video unless the card you install is just a piece of junk.

Johnny,

Gary is asking what type of interface you have for graphics.

It would be AGP, PCI, PCIe, PCIe 2.0,

I can tell you from experience that PCI video cards are TERRIBLE for FS. I purchased an nVidia 8400 512MB card for PCI and it was actually slower than my FX 5200 (128MB).

I eventually ended up getting a new board w/ PCIe 2.0 16x interface. I'm currently using the nVidia 9600GT 512MB and it works very well. I have everything set wide open.

My set-up for FS 2004:

Home built Desktop Case.

AMD Socket A, Athlon Thoroughbred, 2600 MMX, 2.1 GHz Processor.
nVidia AGP 7800GS 256 MB Graphics Card.
Creative Labs 1024 Sound Card.
2.3 GB of Memory.
700 Watt Power Supply Unit.

So, even with an ancient "Socket A" Processor, and an old-fashioned AGP card, I can still run my trusty FS 2004 flat out*, with all the sliders set to maximum!... :-*...!

(Something you can never do with FSX!)**....;)...!

Paul...G-BPLF....FS 2004...FS Navigator.... 8-)...!

* Frame rate LOCKED to 20 FPS for "Smoothness"... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

** I have FSX, but would never try to run it with my specification, so its FS 2004 instead!

fs9 runs real smooth on my PC,and i've noticed improvement around brize norton add on,to about 10 fps worst, after a couple of tweaks.
Really,i guess my graphic card and interface must be quite good.Im just a perfectionist.

Another pisser i read about, thinking about getting VFR horizon scenery-AND london 3D,BUT running it with vista is apparently a problem!!! ####'##'4#vista!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
