Out of memory?

Postby SubZer0 » Sat Apr 18, 2009 8:33 pm

Hey guys,

While on final to an airport somewhere in Fiji, FS9 gave me an error saying my computer has run out of available memory. It said it was perhaps that I didn't have enough space on my HDD... but I have 102GB left on my FS9 (and Windows) drive. 6GB RAM... on XP Pro x64. Any ideas? It's been happening a bit lately... I think it also happened once or twice with FSX.

A concerned,

Andy

I am not sure about XP pro 64 but I have had the same problem with Vista too and I have over 320gb of RAM. What I ended up doing was slaving the drive and making a second partition then moved my FS9 to the "second" HD. I haven't had the problem since. Hopefully that helps.

I'm using SATA drives so I don't have to make them 'slave' or 'master'...

320GB of RAM? You mean HDD space ;)

I'm going to rebuild the page file as per Nick to see if that does anything

FS9 is not >2GB aware

It was probably a addon causing the error

if you wish to make FS9 >2GB aware, use this post

http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 3552/15#15

FS9 will then have as much access to a full 4GB of memory as FSX

If the page file was already 3072-3072 I seriousy doubt that was the problem.. most OOM errors with FS9 are related to a bad scenery design

If you turned the page file off after reading some dumb tweak site.. then darn-strait skippy you will see OOM..  dont ever do that as it is needed for allocation even if it is never physically used

Hey Nick,

I did have the pagefile at 3072-3072 so I trust (and hope!) that it was bad scenery design. I'll have to refly the flight some other time to see if it's that.

more than likely it is.. you are on a 64bit OS with more than enough page to do the job and that would further point to a addon

you can use the post I linked to make FS9 work with 4GB just like FSX

1 other slight problem, is you may have too many processes running in the background.  Exactly how many do you have running when FS9 is NOT running?   For best effeciency, you should only have around 25. (the less is better).

But then again, what do i really know, follow Nick. He is more of the resident guru than I.
