gone back to fs2004...

Postby fulanito_uk » Sat Jan 10, 2009 4:07 pm

Hi all
I went back to fs2004 today, mainly because i couldn't get good FPS on fsx and on 2004 i get maxed out settings...

however i have a problem every thing looks perfect but when i set a weather.. for instance cold fronts, it looks great for a while about (5 minutes) then I seem to fly out of the bank of clouds and it becomes a clear day, which ever setting I use. How can i get the clouds or the weather I choose to stay on?

I got flight Environment looks great but same problem i fly out of the small weather zone and it becomes clear and pleasent.

Also what does the sight distance do? mines set at 60mi

Thanks

...tip number one...

Set your "Sight distance" in "Weather" to 5-10 Miles Max, for realistic aerial flight...the Scenery will appear gradually clearer as you approach it...as happens in real life!..;)...!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004... 8-)...!

Tip number two: For smooth flight, lock your Frame rate to 20 FPS Max!

fulanito_uk,

Get ActiveSky 6.5 for fs2004.  It will be a well invested amount of $.  No comparison to default weather.

best,

When setting the weather:

You can move the 'Dynamic Weather'>'Rate of change' slider to the left. All the way left is 'None', no change.

If you setting 'user defined' weather, choose 'all weather stations'.

Ditto JB's remark about ActiveSky... there may be someting better out there, but AS totally blows away FS9's default weather, in every way.

I don't play much with all the "eye candy" possibilities, but I find it never stumbles when updating online wx and creates pretty believable changes in visibilty and wind.

not to hijack the thread.... but.....
if i were to reinstall 2004 should i install it first or uninstall fsx first?
second i went to fsx because miltiplayer wasnt supported in 2004, what else does fsx have that 2004 doesnt? i mean that might be important.do they both have the logbook?

The two can co-exist together, so there is no need to uninstall at all.

And FS2004 has AWSOME, bug-free, Gamespy free, multiplayer. ;)

See the multiplayer section below for more info. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

strange even with middle settings i still only get about 24fps but  at least i had the AA on.    i could get 20 on fsx with no aa and minimal graphic settings. i guess for now i have to play with both and decide if good basic graffics (2004) or terrible superior graffics (FSX) ar ebetter.

also do you need to leave a disc in the drive to use 2004? and do i have to use the keyboard to acknolwdge the ATC or can i use the monse and click on the words like FSX?
