Service Pack 3 for XP

Postby garymbuska » Mon Nov 17, 2008 11:21 pm

Just a little information If you install service pack 3 for windows it will give you problems. If you insert disk 1 of FS2004 do not be surprised if your system suddenly restarts without any warning. It also prevented me from uninstalling some games that I had installed before service pack 3.
I wound up uninstalling service pack 3 and every thing works like it should now. I was able to uninstall the games and now my system does not restart when I put the first disk of FS2004 in.
I would advise anyone not to install it for now.
You gotta love Microsoft ::)

I don;t know about a re-install of fs2004........... but I've been running SPIII just fine here on an existing install.  And I have installed other software since the update with no problems.

best,

I've been running SP3 with zero problems for quite a while now, which includes one FS2004 re-installation, as well as the installation of numerous other programs.

Hey guys,
On my XP machine a few months ago, I installed SP3 without any problems on an existing install as well. I guess it's up to one's own system to make the decision  ;D

Nick recommended to do a full, clean install of XP if upgrading to SP3... Maybe that's why (although I didn't follow the rule myself lol)

All I can tell you is I had two games installed AGES OF EMPIRES and SILENT HUNTERS WOLVES OF THE PACIFIC and once service pack 3 was installed I could not uninstall either of them. Every time i tried my system would restart itself no messages or warnings at all. Then any time I put disk 1 of FS2004 in it would do the same thing. FS was also crashing in the middle of flights or at the very end while taxing to the gate.My system was very unstable as well and would rest it self in the middle of a lot of what I was doing.
Now with service pack 3 removed I had no problems uninstalling both games and no problems using disk 1 either, Plus no more crashing.
I could be wrong here but I suspect that service pack 3 that was on my system at the time was the guilty party. ;)

"POSSIBLY" ....

I'm WINDOWS XP PRO.

I recently installed SP3.

I did then suddenly encounter stability problems with our (HJG) Boeing panels during high altitude AP controlled flight with ALT HLD selected. Although 1 or 2 people had reported this problem on our own forum I'd "NEVER .... EVER" previously experienced it with any of our B707/720's .... until SP3 went in.

I too then removed SP3 .... but .... my above problem still persisted afterward.

So .... I eventually reinstalled it again .... and still my problem persisted

I hasten to also add that around the same time as SP3 was installed I had uninstalled a number programs .... and later got to suspect that DIRECT X9C might have been "bumped" in the process.

I then reinstalled DIRECT X9C .... and suddenly my sudden and unexplained problems during high altitude AP controlled flight all "VANISHED" .... and with SP3 still reinstalled also.

I guess it's up to one's own system to make the decision

I believe I read somewhere in the Sim V Forum discussion regarding SP3, that it added very little useful to SP2, and therefore was probably not that important to install it ...and run any risks...... ::)...!

I've avoided it so far...

I have had it on this machine since early March 2008. It was the first time for SP3 to have been installed, as well as the first time (on this machine) that FS9 was installed. I seem to get a great deal of slowdowns and "program not responding" messages. Maybe my clicker finger is faster than my processor...
