Whats the best way for installing fs9

Postby clouds » Fri Nov 21, 2008 10:20 am

Hi Guys ive been an avid flight simmer for some years now but I am trying to experiment with my different drives. I was wondering if I put my VFR texture/terrain files on my raptor drive and my fs9 game on another drive would it help loading up the textures any faster. I dont have any major issues with the game apart from textures. I have a P4 3.2ghz pc with the Radeon X1950pro graphics card and 2gb of ddr ram  I just want to be able to speed up the refresh rates if possible .

regards flyingsimpo formley flyingbartdude. ;)

It'll only run as fast as your slower drive. It is always best to install all FS stuff on one disk and then pump up the RAM ;)

Hi Guys thanks for the information so basically what you are saying is make sure my flight simulator is on my raptor drive (C Drive). At the moment I use my 80gb raptor drive as my main windows drive but I have FS9 on another 120gb 7800rpm drive sounds best if I put everything on my raptor 10,000rpm and lock framerate 25fps ?

That should do the trick. I'd clean and defrag the drive before installation as well to get the best possible results ;)

Have a peek at your Hard Drive light while the Flight Sim is running.....

If it only flickers on very rare occasions, it means that you have sufficient RAM installed for the program to run from Fast Ram smoothly, without "stuttering".... :)....

If your Hard Drive light, lights up frequently, it means you have insufficient RAM installed, and the program is constantly spooling slowly from your Hard drive, with frequent stuttering, and stalling!.... :o...!

Lots of RAM means a smooth running Game...;)...!

The purpose of the Hard Drive is merely to load the game initally into fast RAM, from where the Game then runs.

F....with unknown ramifications... ;).... ;D....!

A good tip, and this applies to other games as well, is if you have been using the Computer for a few hours beforehand, and then decide to Load, and run, the Flight Sim, is to switch off the Computer first, wait a few minutes, switch back on, and then Load the game.

This will have allowed the RAM to be cleared and refreshed, ready for the new Game installation... :)...!

...also...make sure you have no unnecessary other programs running in the background..;)...!

I have an Nvidia GF 7800 GS 256MB (AGP) Card, AMD Socket A Athlon 2600+ (2.1.GB) Processor, and 2.3 GB of RAM...
...and FS 2004 runs smoothly, with everything maxed, and no stuttering input from the Hard Drive!... :-*...!

F....with an ancient, but satisfactory system... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!
