Radar Altimeter

Postby heelswinagain » Fri Oct 31, 2008 12:59 pm

Can I alter it?

Some planes have me touching down at 0, 9, 14, and 18 feet, according to the callouts.

Sounds like it's in the contact points-- not that I would know much about that. I just learned how to take excessive "flatness" out of the tyres a few weeks ago...

Help if you could say which aeroplane(s) you're using, heelswinagain. As far as I know none of the default aeroplanes has a radio altimeter (radio, not radar); nor do they have callouts.

Even then, any callouts almost certainly relate to the height of the 'aircraft datum' (the 'centreline' of the fuselage) above the runway, rather than the level of the actual wheels. As a guide, in an airliner, you should start levelling out at not less than say 30 feet RA and should find yourself touching down at about 15-20 feet RA. That is, the 'height' of the landing gear below the fuselage datum.
