ATC going crazy......

Postby Aiden327 » Sat Oct 25, 2008 6:14 pm

Ok, today I was flying from KSEA to KSEA for some landing practice in the default 737 using IFR and Full traffic. (original traffic deleted, im using multiple trafic packs).

heres the last minutes of conversation (note im using a free ware atc program, I can't remember the name. Maybe somebody can help my remember, sry.)

shortly after take off I am told to expect approach 34R and am told to do a 175, then 155 making a 180. The last bit of chat that FS saved is below.

"American Pacific 1123, Seattle Control roger. altimeter 2992"

"American pacific 1123 Contact seattle control 124.2"

"American Pacific 1123, seattle control roger. altimeter 2992"

"American pacific 1123. turn left heading 125"

"American pacific 1123, turn right heading 155"

"American pacific 1123 Contact seattle control 134.9"

"American Pacific 1123, seattle control roger. altimeter 2992"

"American pacific 1123 Contact seattle control 126.6"

"American Pacific 1123, seattle control roger. altimeter 2992"

"American Pacific 1123, IFR flight plan is cancel'd, radar service terminated. squak 1200. Maintain VFR Frequency change approved.

Not really, though I can sympathize. Usually I get what I call 'ATC Tennis'; where I get bounced back and forth between two ATC freq's nonstop for half my trip. I've had ATC abandon me on approach too; I think it's simply because as a rather stupid AI it doesn't have a very good decision making process and mechanically follows a script; whether or not it makes much sense.
(shrug) Just one of the things we live with with FS9. :)

Aiden327,

Microsoft's Human Resources Department did not hire very good ATC personnel for the last two sims!   ;)  Problems with the ATC system in fs2004 and FSX are well known.  People looking for better typically use a third party payware add on like Radar Contact.

As to you general "issues"....... the machine you listed is overall pretty marginal for fs2004 and certainly for FSX.  Odds are good that is a goodly part of the issues.

Post every bit of your specs so maybe people can help more.  Include all the software that you are running at the same time as FS2004 or fsx too.

best,

Thank you for the replies. At least I know im not going crazy :D

Suprisingly I can run 2004 at 800x600 with medium textures, 100% terrain mesh, dynamic slider on max and density on sparse. My little GeForce 2 has something in it that allows it to handel textures really realy wel. Fsx run fine with minimal settings aswell.

The biggest problems im haveing are guages, flight dynamics and game saveing.

[list][*]If I attempt to save the game the planes state will become permanent. If I save while cruising at fl230 for example and I start a new flight at ksea starting at the gate, my planes auto pilot is set for fl230 and it just rams itself into the terminal :D

Sometimes I get real sharp lateral movements

Forget about the ATC. Just fly the plane and land. If U are using planes like PMDG. The TCAS should warn you well in advance of any traffic approaching your way. Program the FMC and fly all the way to the destination. ::)

Yeah, im saving up for radar contact, ultimate traffic, and FDC live cockpit for when I build my new pc. I should have more than enough power to run the game maxed out with the addons :).

Im a little confused though of why it works fine for a few months and then corrupts itself? Is there a log or cache that needs to be cleared out? I fly almost everyday so I may just be overwhelming the ai lol  ;D.
