I must admit I'm stumped. If the scenery was installed & activated correctly there's no logical explanation that I can think of for it suddenly disappearing with no reason.

I installed the Gatwick scenery to a fresh install of FS9 just like you. If you open Scenery.cfg in Notepad you can check to see if it's still listed. I've pasted the last entry from my own CFG below. Your scenery is in a different location but it should look similar. (I know this is in XP but it should not make any difference.)

[Area.039]
Title=UK2000 Gatwick FREE
Local=Addon Scenery\UK2000 Gatwick FREE
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=39

PS. Note that I manually installed the UK2000 Gatwick FREE folder into the FS9\Addon Scenery directory. This is where I keep all my 3rd party scenery.

Thank Hagar.  Yes I get that scenery cfg entry but when I add the other 3 airorts no cfg entries appear but the airports do until I stop & restart when they're gone.   Also, my Channel Islands Addons don't show & they're in the correct folder.   I'm going to uninstall EVERYTHING I can find again tomorrow & try again.  The XP Dell works fine so maybe there's a goblin in this new machine - I'll talk to the makers tomorrow.  Honestly, I get this new thing just for FS9 & I'm faced with problems!!      I installed all this in both Dell so it's not as tho' I don't know what to do.    I'll let you know how it goes with another reinstall.

I'm not convinced that another reinstall will solve anything. The first thing I would try is to delete fs9.cfg. Much quicker & easier than a reinstall although I don't really see how either will fix this problem.

Yes I get that scenery cfg entry but when I add the other 3 airorts no cfg entries appear but the airports do until I stop & restart when they're gone.

Not sure I understand what you mean by this. New scenery areas activated from the Scenery Library cannot display in the sim unless they're installed/activated correctly & listed in Scenery.cfg. After selecting it from the Scenery Library you have to exit FS9 before a new scenery area can display as Scenery.cfg is updated the next time you restart it. The new scenery is not activated until that point. This is the main difference between FS9 & earlier versions of FS when new scenery would display immediately after selecting it in the Scenery Library.

There are 2 possibilities that I can think of. Either the scenery is not installed correctly or the Scenery.cfg file properties have somehow been changed to Read-only. You can check the latter by right-clicking on the file & selecting Properties.

AWD-IT say the add-on software (UK2000) may not work with Vista 64bit?   I had Jim Vile's Kai Tak 98 visible 6 days ago but that's gone & I can't get it to show, depsite there being a scenery cfg entry!

Here's more to chew on - I noticed whilst surfing the Control Panel that Programmes & Features had 'Use an older programme with this version of Windoze' & I found a compatibility wizard & I've set FS9 as running with administrator privileges.  So far Gatwick & Edinburgh appear in the library.   I've left a ? on UK200 about compatibility with Vista 64bit.

? Will lots of addons not work with V64.  Might put a topic about it?! but I'll surf the forum first in case it's already been answered.

UK2000 say Vista protects its programmes in the C:\Programmes Files tree & he suggests a folder (as he's done) C:\FS9 as the best way to run FS.

yes
I suspect this the option you're referring to.

Checking the box will remove personal files & settings. It will not remove any 3rd party addons. I didn't go any further as I don't wish to uninstall FS9.

I'm not sure of the relevance of your link & besides it's academic as I've reinstalled in C\FS9.   I await events  :-/

Well, I have the solution.
No need to reinstall anything, stop if you are doing it right now!

If you have a Vista 64-bit (like me) you must run FS9 in "XP service pack 2" mode. It is a Vista feature.
For doing that you must right-click the icon and find in properties the flag to activate.

In this way you there are no more problems to add sceneries.
I have solved this problem in a few seconds.
