Direct X

I just installed FS9 on my new Dell Inspiron 530 and when I am at the main screen, create a flight, and when I go to change the aircraft type, it takes forever to load, and I believe it is because I need to update my DirectX, but I have no idea how. Can any one help me? I did some reasearch and I think I need to install DirectX 9 or 10 for Vista, (I have Vista as my OPS).

Flight Simulator 9 does not use Dx10. On the Flight Simulator install disk there should be an install DirectX option. Try that.


What are your specs? i believe it takes a long time to load the aircraft is because of your HDD not Dx. Do you defrag?

What do you mean on the install disk there is a DirectX option?

i think on Disk 1 there should be an option to INSTALL Direct X if you are lookign for it. Do you have the FS9.1 patch?

no i dont, I have the regular default FS9 installed on my new computer. I heard a rumour that FS9 will not work on windows vista, but I am not sure if this is true.

It will work in Windows Vista. Try looking around a bit to see what exactly the problem is.

I've tried uninstalling FS9 now, and when I insert disc one and click uninstall, it says "intalizing.." and then it doesnt go anywhere from this. Im really frustrated...  >:(

If you put disk 1 in but close the install it after it starts it's "autoplay" deal, you can the go to my computer, right click on the drive disk one is in, then click open. There you should find a folder (likely called "redistibutable") which should contain the DX installer. I think that's what A1 was talking about.

The best way might be to go to the MS site, as Alonso suggested, and download the latest version though.

The long load times are actually somewhat normal, depending on the machine you use and the add-ons you have. My machine (specs below) usually takes a good 45 seconds to start the sim itself, and even longer to load most flights.

Are we talking about a wait of seconds, minutes, or hours here?
