Change start position of plane

Postby jbellardi » Mon Jan 28, 2008 2:02 am

I have loaded Diamond point scenery. With FS9 default sceneray the plane start at beginning of runway. I now added mega scenary north west. Now it seems that runway moved slightly. When I start a new flight from Diamond point now the plane is positioned just outside peremeter / fence. I want the plane to be positioned at the start of where new runway now is.

Thanks

Hi JB.....looks like it needs opening in AFCAD and repositioning from there.......you into doing that?...otherwise don't know what to say......are all the start positions for that airport the same.......where did your Diamond Point scenery come from?..is it free or payware...if I knew where you got it I could download it and see what the problem is......if it is Payware then I suggest get AFCAD(FREE) and we can help you to sort it.......commoner ;)

Thanx

it is freeware product. I just read some more on the topic and it seem like you are right that I need to adjust AFCAD. I have just downloaded the AFCAD utility. have never used it before, but with the download I see there is a file explaining things. I will try it out tonight and see if I can get it right, otherwise I will contcat you for sure for help.

Should be simple enough...open the offending AFCAD file then click on View then Show Start Points......if these are not on the runway or not where you want them then get the select tool (pointy arrow thing) and click ONCE on the start point to select it and then drag it with the mouse to where you want it.......if it isn't lined up then put the mouse pointer on the little dot on the start point icon and you can drag it round so the arrow faces down the runway.......click the save icon (floppy disc) or do File/Save.........or as I do being lazy ..close AFCAD and when asked to save..click YES ...commoner ;)

Hi JBell
Mega-scenery is famous for such things ( even says on the box)..the problem stems from adding Mega-Scenery over existing downloaded mesh add-ons..remove any from the area's that Mega over see's, and your airport should return to proper place.

Commoner...I have read many times in forums about AFCAD. What is it and how is it used? I don't have any problems with FS9, so is this something I should know about to maybe make things better?

Thanx bLou . Will keep that in mind.
I have however coorect the startup with AFCAD.

Mustang, amazing little utility. Just download the file. There is an awesome document explaining how to change create airports, runways etc...

Commener.
Thanx also.. I struggled initially but when I got the hang of the utility it is actually quite easy to change start position. I really like the program. I have now added other stuff to another airport like a helipad etc.. Changed parking spots etc.. Nice little utility.

Well despite the fact that many members seem to be scared of it I find it one of the most useful and quite the easiest to use of all the many utilities for FS.

All the airports in FS have a .bgl file holding all the info for a particular airport (NOT scenery objects) such as length and width of runways..runway lighting..parking spots...starting places....runway and other ground textures.......taxi links.........and various other things all of which can be edited and moved around and added to using AFCAD........even new airports can be created and added into FS and together with RWY12 object placer or other software can be brought to life with buildings etc........

Best way is to download the thing and read the very good help files...........commoner ;)

Much more interesting than FLYING...who needs boring old flying? ;D

Glad you are enjoying it JB ;)

Hi I'm new to this forum but not to FS, for the ones who have not used AFCAD, now you've tried it you may want to experiment and add parking or build new airports.

You can have FS open while using AFCAD, if you slew to a spot then go to AFCAD the spot you are slewed to in FS is marked with a cross.

Can I suggest before you do any of this put your scenery sliders to max, the reason is if they are not and you add a new parking spot or extend the apron, you may find if you do put your slider up later there may be trees there, so by putting the slider up you can see if there is an obstacle or not before hand.
Just trying to help

Col.
